Holly Warlick quote

Great sentiments,Mule, but tell us how you really feel!! Holly is learning, has the knowledge and needs to be more confident and forceful.

lol i guess i did :) like others have said and i agree with,i think her biggest problem is going from the one that soothed over CPS rants and she was the buffer from the head coach to the players and she has to be the one to assert her will on the team now

and lets not forget a lot of blame goes on the team also, the lack of consistent effort can't be put on the coaches shoulders all the time, the players need to stand up also

1 senior and 3 Juniors on the team isn't helping either ,we all know how streaky Simmons has been and lets not forget that the juniors are streaky too,Massengale and Burdick both are the same,Izzy is consistently good as long as she isn't in foul trouble, which has been a lot

there carrying 10 players on the roster as of now, they have Tucker as the 11th,but she isn't suppose to play this year,I personally would like to see them
carry 13 or 14 players every year, add some project players,if they don't work out that is fine, but in the blow out games you can rest some players

the Lady Vols have been lucky so far this year with injuries, other than Massengale, most haven't been much, just think what it would be with one or two players out for the year,I think that hurt them more than anything last year

see what you started Ben ? I guess i have it off my chest now lol

ooh wait I could go into the new rules by the NCAA,I agree that they needed to tighten up on the physical play, but this seems over the top to me,you can't hand check twice ? give me a break lol

I will get off my soap box now :hi:

Holly is getting better as a coach with every game played. She was quick to call a timeout in the Auburn game when the team came out a little flat to start the half. I will be more critical of her when she gets proven scorers Tucker and Nared on the team next season along with tough floor leader Middleton. Even with those additions we may not be the favorite to win the SEC If SC adds Wilson. The SEC could have two final four teams next season. No doubt Tennessee and SC will be top five in talent if they add Wilson. If we add Wilson we should be expecting a final four at the least.

tell em Volfan,i personally am tiered of all this doom and gloom crap, let em play and lets see what is happening first, for a 2nd year head coach,i think the Lady Vols are looking pretty damn good, like i have said before,it is different riding the bus than it is driving it,CHW is going thru a learning curve and is doing just fine

and i hope some do understand, that isn't a UConn board, till we play them,I don't really give a crap what they are doing or what there coach wipes his ass with
Dear Gov:
Sorry you're depressed. I think the LVs are going to go all the way this year. There's not that many more games to go. L'ville almost did it last year right? And the LVs are much better than L'ville, Right? So the NC is a sure thing. Much easier than winning the Conference. Last year was an abberation.

Next year, with A'ja on board, the LV's will be even better. I'm positive she will be selecting the LVs. No doubt in my mind.

I don't see uconn winning anything this year. They are due for a rough spell. In tonight's game they shot 80% in the second half. Things tend to even out, so you can expect them to go down in flames in the near future.

Hope you feel better now.

Convoluted

PS:

That photo of Holly does have to go though. I still haven't figured out what zombie movie it came from, but it has no chance of surviving here. Nothing to eat.

I back Holly 100 percent. I think she has coached some bad games, but also has coached some really good games, but being only in her second year, she has lot s of room to improve.

Someone had mentioned that we are one of the top three point shooting teams, but don't take a lot of 3 point shots. Which was diffently the case when we played Kentucky (only attempted one 3 point shot I believe). Anyone care to guess why we only took one shot? Kentucky's defense? Maybe we were to focused on getting it inside and might have missed some good 3 point opportunities? I will say for the Auburn game we took some great 3 point shots.

My sense of Warlick is that she really isn't tough and demanding enough to build a great team. As someone astutely said above, she's got too much assistant coach in her--which is essentially a soft role. I'm sure she tries to be tough--but players know what is real and what is affected. I have watched the Vols a lot for years--and it is quite clear that our coaching staff is pretty average and has been that way for at least 10 years, going way back into PS's last stretch. It is why UT has averaged close to 20 turnovers a game for ages--why the assist-to-turnover ratio has long been crappy. With the talent more spread around nowadays, coaching has become much more important than it was 15 years ago when a handful of teams dominated recruiting and it was all about talent. Talent is still important--and we have a lot of talent--but we need more demanding coaching.

 Lady Vols will not make it beyond the Sweet 16. Mark it down. They'll also get bounced early from the SEC Tourney

You might be correct and i would not be shocked. Holly has not done a good job with the player rotation. When Jones comes into the game the team level of play go down.

Gov, I didn't miss that part of your post. Since it may be a long time until TN & uconn play, it will be a long time for you to be constipated and yes, why would you care what kind of toilet tissue he uses since it has nothing to do with basketball.

Geno is a great coach, and the best in the women's bball, and it's not close.

Pat was a pioneer. A lot of her winning was being tenacious and having gotten started so young and being able to build. However, Geno can coach circles around her. Sorry if that is offensive, but the record shows it to be the case.
Geno never enjoyed the equity at UConn and my understanding is that men's program resented him and didn't make things pleasant. Still, he accomplished more in a shorter time than any other. Sure, pat laid foundations for the women's game that Geno didn't have to, but that has nothing to do with pure coaching skill.

Another thing Geno does better is he recruits girls who are mentally tough. I have heard both Holly and Pat speak to the differences in coaching boys and girls and how emotional the girls are. (this was in person, btw) So, does a male coach have women better figured out? No. He recruits girls who have a pair. I seriously doubt Taurasi had to be coddled or pampered. And therein was the problem for Pat. The simple truth is that Geno can connect better with the player who has the killer instinct. And so, he got more players like that. And Pat got more players like Simmons and Glory Johnson.
That last team with Glory was the most dissapointing LVteam in the history of the program. And it was ALL mental.

"We relax. We just think the game is over and let's all do our thing," Warlick said. "I don't have an answer. The kids were here before me."

That was February 2014... 5+ years of her saying this is absolutely incredible to me.
