I never knew there are so many elite basketball coaches that post on this board.

I wonder, though, why some school hasn't already hired them to coach their women's basketball teams.

It's amazing, isn't it? And I marvel at the time some of them seem to have to make epic post after post lamenting over the "state of the program." One has to wonder if some of them have nothing better to do than hide behind a keyboard. Pathetic.

Damn all week huh, bash Holly! Wuteva.

Back to the Presser:

Yeah, I liked the presser, seems like she knows what's going on with her team, roles are being established and players ability to handle those expectations are being exposed, the game is so mental.

They were flat, so that means, maybe they took the player's legs too much in practice. And the second, they didn't want to call themselves Lazy. Which player is going to demand, excellence on the court at all time? Which group of players is going to to demand, excellence on the court at all time?

I like seeing Holly mad, a little angry, the edge she had as a point guard, like after the Penn State game that, that level of play won't be tolerated, hopefully she keeps that edge going forward.

And the team wasn't commuting, that is team, communication is huge in the game of basketball, hopefully whatever that has being going on, has been addressed and or fixed. A team meeting this early in the season, love it, aye that kind of performance is unacceptable, aye what is going on ladies?

This team still needs a heavy dose of accountability, holding each other accountable for their play, every team needs a player or players where certain things weren't tolerated, like not rebounding or playing defense, both come from the heart, and playing yo role.

I enjoy her interviews, she usually answer all my questions, but see my questions might be a lil different.

Fire Fans. We would like to fire some of you as fans, for being the very best worst fans of the Lady Vols. smh. Da worst. 4 games, smh! I mean its a message board. So we would like to fire some fans, and replace them with other fans. Who would like to replace Allen1,LA vols who should hire to replace em as fans , "it," ? lol

What did you all like about the presser?

I mean one has only been a fan for six years, and the other 30 years.

Can we find a suitable replacements fans, the pay is free, all is required a few hours a week on a message board?

Does anyone have any fans in mind? I mean we need to fire some of these fans.

Rennia dunked with ease... The upgraded Holdsclaw with a three point shot, it looks so effortless, she's so smooth. A woman or lady, that can dunk when they want, one player has to try it, hopefully she's that player.

So, I like that from the presser.

Tennessee Head Coach Holly Warlick

(Opening Statement)
"Well, the sun came up after Penn State, and we had to go back to work. Monday we had a team meeting and talked. We talked about film (of the game) they were watching. Tuesday, we had a great practice. Very productive, I thought. We cleaned up some things we needed to. We'll go today, off tomorrow and get into our Virginia Tech mode the next couple of days."

(On whether she was more disappointed in the defensive effort vs. Penn State than the offensive)
"That's a fair statement. I think, defensively, we wanted to limit their threes. We did not. We wanted to take away transition points. We did not. I know they aren't going to go 0-for-something, but we were not very mindful of what we needed to do, and it cost us. If you look at the box scores, we were very productive in the other areas, but if you don't take care of what we are supposed to take care of, then you get beat.

"We didn't have respect for their three-point shooters. We would come out on non-three-point shooters, and they'd go by us. We weren't very in tune to the game plan and into the game. Offensively, obviously, we stood quite a bit. To be honest with you, I don't know what that was from. I don't know if our defense was struggling so our offense kind of stood, but we are not going to beat a lot of basketball teams playing the defense we played the other night."

(On whether she had seen signs of this effort in the opening three games)
"You know, Steve, I didn't. I thought we were past that point. I thought we started off slow against Navy, but we came around. I don't know if it was jitters, being at home - I don't know what it was. I thought (vs.) East Tennessee State we really played well together. We moved the ball. JMU was a great environment, and our backs were against the wall, but I thought we did some good things there.

"We took a step back against Penn State, and I don't know what the reason was. We just went back to work yesterday and guarded concepts, defended concepts, wanting them to be vocal. At times we are vocal, and sometimes we are not, so we just held them accountable for 1) talking, and 2) effort. If you have those two things, things will take care of themselves. If you don't have great effort, then you are not cutting hard into the lane or you are not defending someone. To me it goes back to communication and effort."

(On her main concerns on offense coming off the Penn State game)
"One of my biggest concerns is we are not rebounding the basketball offensively. We are usually pretty good at getting second-chance points. Mercedes Russell is going to the boards consistently. For the most part, so is Jaime Nared, but the rest (of the team) is a toss-up. Diamond's got to go (to the boards) more. Meme's got to go more. When Jordan and Alexa are in, Jordan's got to go more. I think the inconsistency of going to the boards (is an issue).

"Against Penn State, we took some, and reverted back to taking, ill-advised shots. We've got enough time and enough talent where we should get a great look at the basket, and that's an uncontested shot. They may not all go in, but we should have the opportunity, the ball movement and the presence to penetrate a gap or get an uncontested shot.

"I thought Mercedes was working hard for the most part. She missed a couple around the basket. It was physical, and she had to get used to the physicality of the game. Maybe those shots go in early, maybe that gets us rolling. I thought the shots we were taking (as a whole), the degree of difficulty was too high. We didn't need to do that."

(On her thoughts about Virginia Tech)
"Virginia Tech got us here (last year). They spread the floor out, which has tended to give us some problems defensively. They have a super-quick point guard and have kids who can penetrate and shoot the three, so this is not going to be an easy task for us. We've got to focus on us. We've got to understand if they do this concept, this is what we are doing. We have to focus in on us and our game plan. We (the coaches) spend a lot of time preparing for each game, and our kids have got to join in and understand why we're doing this, what's important.

"I think you're going to see a different team, but I don't know. I don't know. We'll see. Virginia Tech will be a big challenge for us. They don't so much have size, but they are scrappy, athletic, quick, can shoot the three and can drive. (Those attributes) sometimes negate a team's (perceived shortcoming concerning) lack of size.

(On what she is thankful for during this Thanksgiving season)
"I'm thankful for the opportunity to do something I love. I'm thankful for a group of kids that are super and fun to be around. I'm thankful that every day God's given me a blessing to be here and, obviously, have an opportunity to teach and mentor these young kids."

(On what her go-to Thanksgiving dish is)
"Well, obviously, I like everything (laughing and pointing at herself). I'm pretty traditional. Turkey. I'm a sweet-tooth person. I can eat pecan pie, pumpkin pie and anything that is sweet - bring it on.

"My family always gets together on Thanksgiving and we have (guests) a lot of people who don't have homes to go to. They always come to our house, since I was a little kid. It is a fun time for us to relax, enjoy family and understand, again, what we are thankful for."

(On the addition of Rennia Davis to the 2017 signing class)
"Rennia Davis, for us, is just icing on the cake. She is somebody we've missed. She's an awesome scorer. She can drive. She can shoot the three. She's a great rebounder. She plays the game with a lot of passion. She's put a lot of time into it. I will say this, this summer, watching AAU ball, a kid was in her face and she elevated and didn't flinch and made a shot toward the end of the game. I'm like `that's something we miss, and we need.' I called her the other day and she had 37 (points). I called her two nights ago, and she said, `well, coach, I had 43.' I asked her if she could jump ship and come early (said while laughing).

"All four of those kids (UT's four signees) complement each other. I think looking at our recruiting class, we had to get kids we needed in each position. I think we did just that. Evina and Annie are 1/2 kind of combos for us. Rennia is a three who can knock down the shot that we need and get that rebound we need, and Kasi is kind of the anchor inside. Those four positions we needed, and again, they are great players, but they are great kids and come from great families. I am really excited to be able to coach them. I got to see Annie play last night. She did not disappoint. She is a solid kid who wants to be surrounded by great players. I think all four of them will make huge contribution to us early."

(On players' take on the Penn State game)
"Their take on the Penn State game is that they were embarrassed, disappointed. They couldn't really put their finger on what was the problem, but I think we came to the conclusion that we didn't have great communication in that game. For some reason or another, we were flat. We're going to do a better job of making sure our kids understand which offense/defense we are in and try to alleviate coming out flat."

(On whether she will talk to the team about last year's Va. Tech game)
"We're going to talk about the Virginia Tech game (from last year). We were average last year, and they were very good. Absolutely, we are going to use that. Now Virginia Tech has it in their mind they're going to have two in a row against us. We're going to bring it up. We're going to show it. They need to know. They need to feel how they felt after the game, because that style of play and what we did is not acceptable. We're going to make sure they understand what we don't need to do. That film will be a great example for us."

(On whether the schedule is by design, with several teams that spread the floor, etc...)
"Our pre-SEC schedule has been by design. We looked at teams that have won their conference, teams that have had great records, teams that play a different style, and spreading the floor is very difficult. That has been by design, because the SEC is physical, it's athletic. Yes, some teams spread the floor, but the teams we are playing may not be as athletic but they are talented in other ways we may not see.

"I'm just trying to get our kids a little taste of everything, so when it is tournament time, we can refer back and say `that team is like Virginia Tech. That team is like James Madison.' It's just a building block for us. If we can master guarding people away from the basket, then we can be comfortable guarding somebody that's going to back us down and be a little more conventional basketball team. These days, I really don't know what conventional is. To pull your 4 or 5 player out for us and have to guard on the perimeter - that's hard. That's what we are trying to get our kids comfortable doing."

(On making sure players know the game plan)
"At times, we may have to repeat ourselves a little more in the huddle. It comes down to listening. You have to sit down, get water or whatever you need, and then get focused. I think our kids have done a great job. I was surprised by what happened at Penn State. We have to refocus and go to the next thing. I thought we held onto a lot of things that we did wrong against Penn State. That just snowballed a little. I think communicating with each other is huge for us, and we didn't do that. Yesterday, we did a few drills to make them become better communicators with each other. We will continue to do that, and hopefully, they will understand why it's important for me to be able to talk on the floor and them know what to do."

(On Alexa Middleton's performances the past two games)
"She started against ETSU, and I don't know if she was mentally ready for that. She is very capable of doing it. I didn't start her against Penn State. We had a conversation at practice yesterday. I told her that she is starting, and she needs to get it out of her head. She needs to get her mindset in a different place. She agreed. Last year, she was injured a little bit, so she hasn't been able to play up to her full potential. She put in a lot of time over the summer. I have a tremendous amount of confidence in her. She has earned that right. She has to make sure to step up and understand her role. We are going to need her, especially with the teams we play. It's hard for Schaquilla Nunn to come out and guard a three player. It puts her at a disadvantage. Alexa can handle it."

(On signee Rennia Davis' dunk)
"I loved it. I saw it this morning, and it looked like she just barely jumped and didn't have a reaction. It was like it was a matter of fact. If it were me, I would be hanging from the rim and wanting everybody to clap. She went about her business. You see the talent that is to come, but she has not even tapped the surface of how good she is going to be. She had a solid AAU coach and high school coach to keep her grounded. She is just going to keep getting better. She can dunk all she wants in a game as long as it goes in the basket."

FP there is no excuse to lose to Penn St...period. No motivation to correct their last year showing. That's on the coach.
