Most everybody recognizes Condredge Holloway as a great athletic running QB but it seems like a lot of people have different opinions of Dobbs. Listening to Doug Matthews this morning and the stats he threw out amazed me. I wasnt able to get the exact numbers but here is roughly what he said.

Rush attempts, rush yards, rush TD's

Holloway : 320, 900, 9

Dobbs : 250, 1300, 20

We have something special in Dobbs and I hope everybody is aware of it. I get frustrated at some of his passes too but overall he's hard to beat.

Holloway was never a rushing QB. He was cat quick and untouchable in the backfield. The majority if his yards came from broken plays. He just got the job done. not really comparable to Dobbs and this offensive structure.

Holloway played on the freshman team, required back then. I actually saw most of those games. None of those stats counted.

I think the passing game will be a whole different story this year. It started with the georgia game last year and it continued through the off season. EVERYBODY knew the passing game had to improve. We have a barn full of receivers and one of them has to get hot by numbers alone. Dobbs has looked very good in preseason IMO.

Different times, different players, both great Vols.

Dobbs is the best open field runner we have on the team.

What really made me see his speed in the open field was when he housed that catch last year in the swamp. He hit the edge and was gone. I knew he was fast but he out ran the Florida secondary and everybody else on the field. It was impressive.

Both are very elusive QB's. Holloway could have been a MLB player. He probably had better accuracy passing than Dobbs.

he really is, but what is the most surprising is that he is more durable than people think and he breaks tackles when you don't think it is possible. He is amazing. He will be missed!

I don't doubt Dobbs' durability. He has taken (and delivered!) some solid hits and bounced right back. The amazing thing about Holloway was he took some vicious hits and even concussions and would get right back in the game. The UCLA game was the most noteworthy, but Bama would target him because he snubbed them. I met Conrdredge when I was in middle school. He was dating my sisters' best friend, and he came to our house. I was bigger than him! He asked if I played football. I said "yes". He said, "Study English."! True story.

Conredge truly was a scrambling QB, possibly reflecting the influence on the game back then by Fran Tarkenton. Conredge used his legs to buy time to make a pass. Latter fans are familiar with his highlight reels showing some incredible downfield runs, but those were exceptions.

I'll never forget the show he put on in the freshman game against Notre Dame.

Not to take away from your post, but I don't think he snubbed bama. They were upfront with him in recruiting and said that Alabama wasn't ready for a black qb yet. If I recall correctly..

I thought it was more his Father's stand on integration and the political fall out if he had gone to Alabama. However, I could be wrong.

According to Tebow on ESPN yesterday, Dobbs has to prove he can be a leader in the 4th qtr of games , which he didn't do last year against Ala. and Ok.

Can't argue that until we see what happens this year. I think Josh will decide the outcomes of at least 2 games this year in the 4th qtr.

Except it's hard to play at your best when the coach basically ties one hand behind your back, with badcoaching decisions. As stated by people a lot smarter than Tim Tebow, and played longer in the NFL.

Too hard to compare players from different eras in completely different offensive systems IMO. Condredge was a magician on broken plays and Joshua is an outstanding, deceptively strong runner. Tough call IMO. They're both all-time great Vols.
