Many fans are frustrated that 'Bama, USC, Texas, etc can come in out of left field and "steal" someone that we thought was solid. Recruiting is a science, but an inexact one. Our highest rated classes of the past 10 years were busts, and left us in the hole we're trying climb out of. CDD's approach is to evaluate in-person, let the recruit take their time, and commit without the hot sauce. As a result, our players are more likely to hold to their commitment, qualify, and stay put once they get here.

Compare this to the stellar class that USC is putting together. It looks like the his last couple classes, when he got Seantrel Henderson, Dillon Baxter, and Markeith Ambles. All 5* recruits that had no impact whatsoever. And that's like his 2009 class here. We ended up with easy-come, easy-go recruits like Jackson, Brown, Richardson, and Myles. The hot sauce works...but only for so long. The players that remain (Schofield?, Gordon, Teague, King, Mitchell-Thornton, Z Rogers) are not difference makers.

His 2010 recruiting class got us exactly zero DTs. We received commitments (and decommitments) from Brandon Willis, Calvin Smith, and JC Copeland. And we also pinned our hopes on John Brown, who couldn't qualify.

Kiffin cleaned out a lot of dead wood when he arrived here, but the attrition he introduced added at least another year onto our rebuilding plan. Kiffin's got it rolling, but keep your eye on the transfer/dismissal rate. He can't replace them as easily, with the scholarship reductions. CDD is selling UT – regardless of whether he is the coach. The fact that we can sign 3 straight top-12 classes coming off losing records 3 of the past 4 years is amazing.

I'm not calling you a liar, but has there been an official update of the 2012 rankings? If there has can you provide a link. I think CDD at the very least has restocked the shelves pretty good all things considered.

Kiffin is a lot like Coker. He loves the star factor from recruiting sites. Now, in the past and present, he has/is been in the hotbed of college football with Pete Carrol and has some serious help (Ogre). He does nab these 5/4 stars regularly and always has. Kiffin is a heck of a recruiter and I think he is actually a good coach. I hate the fact that I think that and hope he fails like no other... :puke5:

Another one of these threads? Oh well, it will save this very discussion from consuming every recruit's thread for the time being.

No official re-ranking, but the addition of Phillips pushed us to 12th in o e of the rankings. We'll already exceed the ranking because all of our signees made it into school, which already puts us ahead of most schools.

I'm interested to see how 1 kid moves us up a total of 5 spots in Rivals, especially considering the kid hasn't even made it in officially yet. Bryce Brown moved us up that much, and he was the #1 player that year in Rivals.

Phillips himself wouldn't move us up five spots. The five spot jump would be in the enrolled rankings (assuming he officially enrolls), and would be due to a combination of adding phillips and players on teams in front of us not making it in.

who gives a crap. take the players you get and go win some games.

Only recruiting junkies give a rip about Scout or Rivals rankings. Coaching staff doesn't care either. I am turning into a junkie and wouldn't mind high rankings, but I just want to get good players to win games.

Bc if we finished top 12 it would go against everything he has been blindly arguing lately. All his b*tching about DD not recruiting enough 4 and 5 stars that he covets so highly and yet we still finish in at least the top 15 every year DD has been here.

To the OP's point, I have to agree. We all know Kiffin can recruit the "big-time" guys as well as anyone. But identifying and picking guys with character is something he is obviously lacking at. Maybe it's bc he, like many of the players he recruits, is also lacking in that department.

I believe that unless you are Bama or USC that has a good leadership on the team the 5* recruits are noting more than Drama Queens that thinks rules and working hard doesnt apply to them...the 4* recruit works harder and has just as much impact as 5*...CDD is doing it right...look around at the other schools...kids in trouble..ect...ect..

Tiger Sauce (by Try Me), is a very good hot sauce. Hot enough, but not over powering the other seasonings contained there in.

Well said. DD is building a team, not a high school hall of fame. UT is improving in skill AND character. Kiffin's house of cards will fall.
