Hokies aren't that good.

Where's VT ranked right now? I can't seem to recall...

Unranked, as we have been for the last few years. Definite down turn in Beamer's last years but hopefully things will start to improve. Hopefully, VT will prove themselves worthy of mighty TN's time tomorrow night. The Hokies may even prove to be as athletic and talented as App St. Who knows?

I like VT. You are making it hard for me to keep it that way.

I know. The nerve of imaging that an opposing teams forum would have negative things to say about his team. The horror and shock!

App State is evidently a top 15 team this year, because they were 11-2 last season and returned 17 starters.

VT is probably not on par with App State, they have a new coach, their recruiting classes are ranked in the 30 most years, they play in the ACC, they have a JUCO QB who hasnt played in big games... the list goes on.

This is gonna be me at game time though  anxious to see if the undermanned and no talent Hokies can pull off an App State (minus the missed extra point & FG) and make the Vols look average again.

Fair enough! I certainly didn't expect TN fan's on a TN message board to sing the praises of VT. Just surprised to read posts that honestly attempt to imply VT football is on par or even lower than the level of App. St. Of course, there's not even a suggestion that VT may in fact be at or above the level of Tenn in recent years.

No doubt UT has more tradition and history and the SEC schedule skews things, but the dominance you seem to assume isn't as glaring if you take off the Big Orange glasses.

Since 2000:
UT Record 120-82 won .59% of games
VT Record 150-61 won .71% of games

UT Avg rank - 25 (ranked 5 times at end of season)
VT Avg rank - 19 (ranked 11 times at end of season)

UT top 10 finishes - 1 ('01)
VT top 10 finishes - 4 ('00, '04, '05, "07, '09)

UT Conference Championships - 0
VT Conference Championships - 4 ('04, '07, '08, '10)

UT Current Bowl Streak - 2 games
VT Current Bowl Streak - 23 games

Of course, none of this matters at Bristol as I think UT has too much talent on D to expect a Hokies win. Don't be surprised if Lil ol' VT does makes it interesting though!
Good Luck!

You never know. It could be close.

It's a big spectacle game. Should be one to remember.

But we do compete in the SEC. More talent, better coaching and better football period.

VTech deserves a lot of credit for stepping up and facing the Vols.

Give Fuente some time. About 3 years, and VTech could probably compete with some of the SEC speed.

Tennessee is one of the fastest teams in the country. It'll be a good lesson for the Hokies...

Wow, wonder why most people outside of Ol Rocky Top think UT fans are a bit pretentious? Guess Bud & Fuente will just bring their slow, plodding, weak little 2 stars and see where they stack up against Tennessee's elite. I guess the 2009 VT beatdown wasn't against SEC speed, coaching and talent? Cue up "but, this year is different" in 3, 2, 1...

Don't judge the whole fanbase by my sole opinion lol.

Look, you have a new head coach for a reason...
Frank Beamer should have been let go sooner probably. But he built that program. So he was allowed to leave whenever.

But you can't expect Fuente to fix everything in one offseason. Just can't.

This game will be very similar to what Oregon did to Tennessee in Butch's first year. In 2013.

It could get very ugly.

I said 25- 6, but I actually think its closer to 50- 12...Vols.

We'll find out Saturday. This isn't a jab at the Hokies, I just know this is a bad matchup for you all.

50 points against a Bud Foster defense? We'll see. I'd like to know when the last time time that happened.

No doubt it was sadly time for Frank to go, and we're optimistic about Fuente and an offensive spark.

It would be a huge win for VT if they can figure out a way to get it done. 50-12? Just wondering how you see that happening? What about the Hokies this year would indicate such a "bad match up?" I'm not sure I buy that Dobbs can beat the Hokies throwing downfield consistently, especially when pressured like Bud will inevitably bring? UT just gonna run it down VT's throats with their rather questionable OL play?

Where are all these VT fans coming from?

VT is garbage. If Tennessee doesn't crush them, they should be disappointed.

If Tennessee even halfway shows up, VT gets hammered.

Remember in 2013 when AU and Malzhan were running for 350+ on every team they played? Then teams spent all off season going over the film and their offense has looked worse and worse since. Last year was our "AU 2013" but without the breaks in the big games. I wonder if the teams we play have learned how to stop our running game the same way they did AU.

Could be. Jones emphasizes execution over scheme but you could have a point. it is more difficult to know because the execution was so poor vs ASU.

Hope Tech can at least give ya'll a game. Who knows, maybe the Hokies will surprise you and play up to the level of App State? Anyway, good luck in the SEC Championship and Playoffs!

I know you'll disappear after the game if you lose.... but you might want to temper the sarcasm. VT didn't exactly show out against an FCS team coming off a 6-5 season.

They gave up 50 to Tulsa their game before last and I think they gave up 40 multiple times last year if I remember correctly.

No Tennessee needs to FULLY show up, yes I think we should win but no we don't need to HALF anything any longer. it's high time to play like we are a SEC contender starting tomorrow night. GBO!!!!!
