Virginia Tech has generally recruited at the Kentucky level the last 4 years. We would have to play our second really bad game in a row to lose to them. I've never really seen us play two bad games in a row with Butch here. Just relax and enjoy the win tomorrow.

I think Mizzou or Vandy would beat them too. I watched Mizzou, and they found something at the end of the West Va game. Vandys run game and defense would be enough.

Let's be real... just because the Vols looked average in that game, doesn't equate App State into being a great football team. They're a decent team, who played a good mistake free game. The Vols underwhelmed, your OL struggled which led to your QB struggling. Pretty much that simple.

The VT defense gave Liberty absolutely nothing... all day. Offensively for VT, right at 500 yards of total offense for the team and 4 TDs from a QB getting his first ever D1 start... and it was vanilla as it could be on both sides of the ball. VT didn't blitz, played essentially man cover all day long.

I think both teams will come out play better game 2.. and I think it's 100% crazy to think this game will be a blowout.

It's about coaching...vt has better recruiting than app state and look what happened reading into recruiting ranking too much... Butch has done less with better recruiting.. he is a good recruiter..but based on the games we gave away last year...it's sad that we were not prepared better for app state... It's actually sad..been a vol fan for 42 yrs and we cannot get over the hump..this year is on track to be the same

Compare App states recruiting ranking to VT then.

It don't matter what the ranking are if UT/the Oline plays like they did last Thursday. VT has some weapons, a lot better D year in/year out than we faced last week, and a chip on their shoulder coming into this game.

You can't judge UT or VT on 1 game so nobody has a clue how this game will go.

I refuse to believe it'll be an ez win until my Vols prove to still be close to what I thought they would be. I haven't seen Butch let a team play that flat but a couple times and never 2 weeks in a row but in my mind, crutin' rankings be d***ed, it's anybody's game.

Our defense played pretty great all things considered. Rewatched the game last night. App State's final score was with 8:58 left in the second quarter, and that score was on a play where we had Vereen covering their wideout and he broke it for a 33 yard score. That's after losing arguably our best defensive player, team captain and voice of the defense. That's after giving App State an easy TD (after the leading punt returner in yards last season muffed the punt) almost inside our redzone after making them go 3 and out on their very first series. Huge props to Mcdowell for getting in their and proving his worth.

Kmac was matched against their best offensive lineman (a senior as well) or double teamed all game. Kongbo's first game and looked as fast as we had hoped, Barnett was constantly in their backfield, and Abernathy proved he can play. So stoked about the defense, will only get better from here. Also this was against the #6 rushing offense in FBS last season. Shoop is just warming up, definitely sold on him.

EDIT: Not trying to call out who I quoted, just an opportunity to point out that our defense was pretty good.

I think we've reached the point where both fanbases are turning nervous energy into trash talk in hopes that what they spout will turn true.

No one has any idea how this game will turn out. Tennessee should win, but our history with 1st year coaches is so bad, and combined with the fact that we looked so pitiful last week, my confidence in this game is shaken. If Beamer was still there, I think we'd take them behind the woodshed.
