Hokie Pokey

Let me clarify.
Talking smack is fine. It's good. It shows passion for your team.
Talking BS smack - i.e. stuff blown out of proportion (the guy who kicked your beer over was a Hokie fan so it had to be intentional) or completely fabricated ("Kiffin's little whores"? Seriously?) is pointless and juvenile.

But that's not what you quoted, was it? And you are the one that had to throw Mother Teresa in here. I'm just saying, it goes both ways.

In response every fanbase has its 10%. A few years back I had the priviledge of attending the UT Notre Dame game and observing the Vol fans sitting around the Irish fans cursing and yelling at them for four quarters; but that was a select few. I hate that it happend to you, but do not let this be your guage for all Hokies. We have fans that we refere to as new Hokies: this is the vial 10%, they are new to the program because of age and have not experienced hard times like those prior to Beamers arrival. I had the same experience with my children during our walk in before the GA game in Atlanta 2 years ago and I felt the same way. Has a Hokie I apologize. Note: (Never take your wife and kids to a West Virginia game it will top your GA Dome experience).

Wow... that's some classless stuff and bowl games are usually a rather civil event.

I hope the experience doesn't become part of the memories your girls associate with Vols football or even college football.

I don't think I've experienced that many classless acts in decades of attending SEC and other bowl games. I missed this one, so I have no firsthand war stories to add.

I thought VA Tech fans had class, but haven't really experienced interacting with them firsthand. Their campus has been home to some horrible events lately.

They certainly played a great game, though. Hats off to that.

East Tennesseans and Southwest Virginians (and I've livedin both places) really don't have much room to talk about West Virginia. Pot meet kettle.

Third...VT fans were ok where we were sitting but we were highly intertained by how much they drank and staggered about and i was in club seating.

I know what you mean. There was drunk hokie down near the UT band who threw his jacket out onto the tunnel to try to get one of the parachute cows. His jacket got stuck in the middle so he tried to climb out on it. He had one foot on the railing before some vol fans pulled him back and kept him from making a big mistake.

Va tech has a lot of trailer trash type fans---tons of rednecks that give them a bad name.

Be sure to go tell Nebraska fans that while you're at it. Nebraska fans love VT fans so much that they still post over on their board constantly.

We have a crapton of rednecks too. It's the South. They are everywhere.

BTW - We also have some douche fans that think getting two inches from an opposing fan's face and yelling 'VOLS *****' is somehow a good thing.

There was some instant anger and animosity towards VT after the collapse at the end of the half.

How exactly can you call a timeout when the play hasn't been ruled dead?

It went away towards the end there.

On a first down in college football, the clock stops so that they can move the chains. Therefore, there was NO possibility that the clock could have run off the final few seconds once the player went down.

There were definitely some very rude and obnoxious VT fans in the dome. I did have a very positive experience with one fan. At the end of the game one VT fan came to me and my family telling me how cool it was that I had my three small kids all there in their orange. He said he remembered his parents taking him to the games when he was a child. I thought it was pretty cool up until the point he gave my daughter a maroon pom-pom. In 1994 after we trounced VT I thought they had a great group of fans and I didn't see us rubbing their noses in it.

As someone else already said, each fan base has their group of obnoxious people. As a UT student and a VT fan, I couldn't even tell you how many liquor bottles and pizza boxes I was hit with in the head at UT games this year. I have only been to a few VT games but have never seen anything thrown at other people or onto the field. I know it won't happen everywhere but the student section is the worst. I don't think I have ever heard as many obscenities yelled at other people than I have by UT students and fans. Just my two cents.

As far as the game went, I had no problems with the TN fans in our section. I thought it would be a lot closer game though. Good game Vols. Hopefully there can be a home/away series set up in the future.
