We just stepped on their face with a hobnail boot and broke their nose. We just crushed their face! :salute:

What exactly is a hob nailed boot?

Germans wore hobnail boots in WWII. To me, Larry Munson stepped over the line (in his hobnail hush puppies)

Young folks won't understand hushpuppies. I don't have a picture for that.

Apparently we played an absolute perfect mistake-free game and Georgiacouldnt catch any break.

It's great.

I honestly feel bad for Georgia fans because they truly feel like Munson was the greatest announcer to ever announce college football. The reality is, however, that Munson couldn't carry John Ward's jock strap.

Amen. His voice is missed.

I have no problem with a team's play by play guy being a homer, but Munson went over the line with that call. Totally classless.

To each his own. That call and the one when Hershel runs over Bill Bates are Munson classics. They are what they are. It's more disturbing to me that so many of our fans are unaware of them. My 15 year old has heard them since he was old enough to care about Tennessee football. It helped him to understand this rivalry, which by the way is the closest thing we have to a rivalry with a 22-21-2 all time record.

Ward, Ledford and Munson are all throw back guys that I'd much rather listen to that any of the commentators on tv these days.

Couple of things:

Just because a rivalry game series favors one side it does not mean it is still not a bitter rivalry. Look at Ohio State - Michigan. The series is woefully in Michigan's favor.

Ward was a true broadcaster in the classic definition in every sense of the word. While he was obviously for Tennessee he had a way of calling the game where he didn't sound like an irate drunk fan. I can't say the same for Munson.

The guys today are not really radio broadcasters. Kesling was a TV guy. They don't make em like John Ward anymore.

EDIT: Michigan is up on Ohio State by 12 games all time, the same difference in the bammer Tennessee series. Ohio State has dominated the series in the last several years.

Munson sounded like a rabid fan calling their games. No "grace" in his choice of words (hobnailed boot). He was better than that horrible Eli Gold for bammer though. To each their own but in my opinion John Ward was the best of the best.

You can call it a classic if that's what you want. It was totally classless. If you want a classic call listen to the Cal announcer at the end of the '82 Stanford game. He was in the moment and he showed his excitement for his team, but he did it without disrespecting the other team.
