(WVLT) -- Tennessee wide receivers coach Trooper Taylor spoke at practice for the first time since announcing he was leaving to be offensive co-coordinator at Oklahoma State, saying that after meeting with Phillip Fulmer, he knew he was not going to be seriously considered for UT's vacant offensive coordinator position.
Taylor said he announced his departure Wednesday evening in an emotional meeting with his wide receivers. He also responded to intimations that some players might transfer, saying he would not have recruited them to Tennessee unless he believed it was the best place for them to be, and that Tennessee was going to win plenty of games with those players.
Fulmer also commented on Taylor's departure, saying that while he would miss the energy he provided, he knew Taylor was making a good decision for himself and his family. Now Fulmer must fill another vacancy in his coaching staff, less than a week after offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe announced he was leaving to become head coach at Duke.
Fulmer indicated that he would take his time appointing the new head coaches. "You wouldn't believe how many coaches have contacted me," he said.
"It's a pain because there's so much going on," Fulmer said, "but for every challenge is an opportunity."

That makes me think in a positive way about the coaching changes.. and in a negative way..
im glad that new coaching blood is coming to the Hill.. because i feel that our offense needs to be involved more..
but i really feel that the players are loosing ALOT in TT.. he's more than a coach to them.. hes a father figure to some of the players..
and its always tough to loose the most popular coach to the players.. ..

but i feel the team will bounce back and play strong in the bowl game

Taylor also said he knew he wasn't going to be considered because he knew Fulmer was going to do a long and thorough search. Taylor is smart enough to realize that there will be several more qualified candidates wanting to come to UT.

Fulmer should go ahead and invite TT to leave town if he can't keep the drama down. He wasn't good enough to get the job, so quit whinning already.

Really he's becoming nothing more than a distraction at this point. It would be nice to not get beat again in a bowl for once. Hopefully the kids are concentrating on wisconsin and not all the drama around them.

He's been practicing and he has almost another two weeks. I'd say he will play some. What kinda injury did he have anyway?

I do not think that TT thought he was ready.... Choosing OK State as a Co OC versus his alma mater as the OC... What gives...

Based on WVLT's article, all i see is Trooper trying to help keep the drama down. I'm no Trooper for OC supporter, but might as well keep him and the rest of the staff for the bowl game. They got us here, the players trust these coaches. Let's see what happens.

Also, I'm beginning to get more and more optimistic about Fulmer hitting at least a triple with these hires.

OK St is simply a better job and the major booster in Stillwater has more money than The Almighty. OK State had about 3 assistant coaches making over $300,000 from what I heard. Heck, the last OC made $390k...

Thanks for clearing that up...hell 390K is more than Cut was making here as OC... Cut topped out at 375 next year... MH better be ready to dish out the wad which he said he would and would not be a problem... I would hope we would go to 400+ for the right hire...

Im pretty sure that we can manage to pay a coach as well as OSU if it came down to it. I know all about T.Boone's money, but Tennessee can compete with OSU, period.
