There is no denying that Coach Fulmer's first nine years at UT were better than his last seven. I personally don't think a 63-27 record with four #1 finishes in the SEC East and three bowl wins is all that bad, but they're definately worse than his 84-17 record with a National Title, two SEC titles and five bowl wins.

However, this is no time to panic and, in my opinion, no time for a coaching change. Set emotion aside and look at numbers. They don't lie. Coach Fulmer's career is following trends established by some of the greatest coaches in College Football history.

For example:

From 1998-2004, Joe Paterno was 40-39 with no conference titles and two bowl wins. In 2005, he roared back to an 11-1 record and a Big 10 Championship. Since, then he's 29-9 and possibly playing for a national title this year.

From 1979-1985, Bo Schembechler was 60-23 with one Big 10 Title. He went on to lead the Wolverines to a 38-10 record with three Conference Titles over the last four years of his career at Michigan.

After winning four national titles, the great Bear Bryant posted a 28-20 record with three straight bowl losses from 1967-1970. He went on to win three more national titles and nine SEC titles from 1971-1982.

We're going through a little bit of a rough patch right now, but we've got the right staff in place to see us through it. If we're not careful, we'll learn a lesson Michigan is learning now the hard way. Stability is very important in college football.

History tells us that Fulmer has likely hired a bust as his OC, or will interfere with his business to the point that he becomes a bust. History also tells us that any future hire Fulmer will make will be horrible. It should also tell us that Fulmer has zero concept of discipline without his buddy David Cutcliffe taking care of things for him.

It is getting really old, all this discussion about Fulmer. If he is kept, which is very probable, and does something great and goes to be 10-3 an SEC east at minimum or 11-2 everyone here that is demanding him to be fired will be right back behind him will full 100% percent support. We are all acting liek UGA fans and only supporting when it is a winning season. everyone has rough times, we will get through it and so will fulmer. lighten up.:bad:

Well history can be looked at in a different shade also. Look at Florida, Urban Meyer was brought in and they had a decent coach doing a pretty good job. If you were to pay me 2.5 million dollars a year to do a job, you wouldn't expect me to perform less than the very top for nine years would you????

The only way fulmer wins titles again is if the SEC weakens back to its 90s level... and I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Just wait till Rich Rod gets his own players in there tailored to his offense. Michigan will be just fine. What exactly did you expect?

That is all.

There's logic in this post.

Clawson hasn't proven to be capable of handling the high level of play required in the SEC. However, it's early and the offense has shown some improvement as the season progresses. It's impossible to evaluate Clawson this year. Any new hire will require at least three seasons to show what he can or cannot do. That's worth keeping in mind when considering getting rid of Coach Fulmer. Look at Michigan if you want to see what will likely happen if we hire a new coach.

We're also seeing how good of an OC Cutcliffe was. Losing him really put a dent in our program.

Have you seen next year's schedule? Next year's schedule the Vols SHOULD go 9-3 minimum, but that would still mean they lose to Florida, Georgia, and Alabama.

Only losing 3 games with next year's schedule is hardly going to be anything "great". 8 home games, all 4 non conference games at home, and 3 of the 4 OOC games are against grade A cupcakes, and the 4th is UCLA, one of the worst BCS conference teams this year.

Geez...let's keep lowering the bar shall we?

Some of you are so ridiculous with your hyperbole, it's amusing. We're not the laughing stocks of the SEC. We're a top three SEC East Program and a Top five SEC program. We're having a rough year, but that doesn't diminish our program overall.

Markets go up, markets go down. We'll be fine. No need to panic.

Right now we're neither a top 3 SEC East team or a top 5 SEC team, unless you have problems reading the standings.

So, we're playing an Ohio State schedule next year? That's really hurt the Buckeyes over the years, hasn't it.

Well whats happening at Michigan with a new coach is happening here with our old coach...The difference is, Michigan will be back up and running in no time and with that new system in place, they will most likely start dominating the Big 10 again as it seems nobody up there has any clue on how to stop it....Everybody knows how to stop UT....Everybody...Even NIU :clapping:

Ha, our only SEC win is over one of the two teams that is worse than us, MSU.

FYP.

There is no use in debating with you so I will just say this. All the writing on the wall says that Fulmer is gone. Are you going to live in the past or focus on the future under a new head coach? Your choice.

Pay attention. I didn't say team, I said PROGRAM.

Teams go up and down year to year. You can't measure anything on one season or two seasons or even three seasons. You have to look big picture.

We're one year removed from playing for the SEC title. We've got six National Championships and a ridiculous number of players in the NFL or who have played in the NFL. A bad year here or there doesn't change that.

How about a mediocre decade, i say that is pretty good measure of how things are going, dont you?
We didnt exactly earn a spot in the SECCG last year, UGA and UF handed that to us. Get off the koolaid man!
