I watched tonight’s episode about the 80’s and most of the other episodes.

Do they know other schools played football in the league besides Alabama and Auburn?

And before people make jokes, it’s not about Florida.

I mean the eight other schools got very little mention in general. Bear Bryant got more air time in death than Georgia of the early 80’s

And no offense meant to the producers of that program, but they’ve got that whole Herschel-Bo thing bass ackwards.

They had to waste air time on Herschel for a little bit before discussing Alabama and Auburn for the rest of the episode.

They mentioned chucky Mullins for 60 seconds.

I don’t agree with that at all. I’d put them in the same ballpark for college careers. (As an aside, I think Jamal Lewis was very much in the same mold pre injury).

2. I would argue Herschel is the greatest college football player in the history of the SEC.

3. Herschel’s teams lost 3 games in 3 years and two of them were bowl games. They never lost an SEC game while he was in school.

Not trying to knock Bo because he was great, but Herschel was in another league.

And when it comes to supernatural freakishness, Herschel was in college what Bo was in Tecmo Bowl. As great as he was, Bo knew injury in college and the NFL. Herschel still looks like he could play

On a side note, Herschel is 12th all time in NFL all purpose yards despite his time in the USFL

The 80s show was the exception. The two previous were almost 100% bammer. They did have one show, I think the second, that seemed to focus on Neyland, from the previews, but I missed it.

However, they have had some brief player profiles from other schools: Condredge, Emmitt Smith, Herschel, Bo, LSU-Bert Jones, Chucky Ole Miss etc. The next chapter is the 90’s and it looks like you guys will have your full of Spurrier, Danny W and friends.

I’m a Gator and I’d be hanged for this amongst my fellow Gators, but it’s Herschel.

I’ve said this before, but Herschel is the only player in college football that was the best player in college from the moment he arrived until he left

Walker was an incredible all around athlete... he may very well have been a better back in college than Jackson

I do recall Dye looking around at him in the 2nd half and Bo shaking his head "no."

I never saw Walker refuse to go into a game--played even with separated shoulder against ND in the NC game......

I thought there was another chapter that showed more footage on Herschel. Maybe it was the ‘regular’ college football series. The 150 years of college football. It’s running in parallel with the SEC series right? I agree that there was too much BAMA but in their defense I’m sure they felt they had to address Bear’s death in the early eighties.

And it’s little things where if you are concerned with the history of the league that should be bigger than any one program.

Example, it was briefly mentioned, but TBS broadcasting games in the 80’s was a huge deal for the league.

Far more relevant than the Bill Curry era at Alabama

I remember watching UGA with Herschel play Miss. State with Michael Haddix and John Bond on TV....

It was one of the best college FB games I've ever seen.....

It's just hard to argue against all of Herschel's accomplishments on the field in just 3 YEARS at UGA.....
I've never thought about Herschel from the perspective you shared about him being the best player in college FB from the time he entered until he left.

I think the only player I've ever seen who could've challenged him would've been Marcus Dupree.

I didn’t start hating Florida until they were consistently our only SEC loss each year and prevented us from going to the SECCG. I think. The 94 game was the turning point thought. From 90-93 the series was pretty even with TN actually beating FL bad at home in 90, 92. Prior to the 90s Florida wasn’t even in our radar and we had a pretty lopsided W-L record in the series. It was all about Bama pre 1990s.

Hershel may have been a better player......but I think Tebow's impact on the Florida team was greater.
NO way those Gators win in Knoxville in '06 without Tebow....
It is hard for me to believe the Gators win a NC at all without Tebow....

And to show what I mean so we’ll see what happens, but the biggest story in the 90s should be the SEC expanding and the conference title game, not Florida.

Now, based on the show so far, if Florida were Bama, the 90s would be entirely about Spurrier with 5 minutes devoted to SEC expansion and Peyton Manning

I understand. It just irks me. They might as well call that thing the history of Alabama football and the Alabama Auburn rivalry.

I mean the 82 Alabama Auburn game meant diddly poo as a football game and they spent time on it like it was 93 FSU vs Notre Dame.

And Pat Dye got portrayed as somehow being the new Bear Bryant of the SEC. I just shook my head.

I haven't watched the 1980s episode yet, so all of the complaints in this thread may be justified. That being said, the 80s were a major down period for SEC football. That decade was arguably the worst for the conference in its entire existence. Bryant's retirement might have been the most significant moment of the entire decade, and that's pretty sad.
