Historic Offense - 50 ppg?

Can this Vol offense be one of the greatest in college football history?

We have the qb, wrs, and offensive genius to make it work. Also, we have what other elite teams don’t: a slightly porous defense that means we aren’t shutting down our O in the 3rd quarter.

We play a lot tougher schedule than some of those great Os of the past, but this Vol offense is so dynamic and moves so fast, I think we’re gonna have multiple 60+ outings in SEC games. Even against the bamas and ugas we’re getting over 30.

I’m saying 70 vs Ball State and then Pitt can’t stop the pass either. Hooker will be bombing them all over the field. 35 by half. 60 by the time the clock hits :00 and we’re off to a good start for that 50 ppg threshold.
Yeah right. But if last year is any indication we give up 55. highly unlikely we score 50 on Bama, ga. LSU. Love optimism but rein in yours still we plat Pitt.

I said we could average 50 a game. I said 30's vs bama and uga. 30 vs bama + 35 vs uga + 65 vs vandy + 70 vs Ball St = 50 points per those 4 games. No one is claiming we're scoring 50 against bama or uga. LSU on the other hand....

I am genuinely curious. How do you see 50 ppg doable?
It would take the defense stepping up big time. Let's take the Kentucky game last year as an example. We scored 45 points in 13 minutes 52 seconds time of possession compared to their 46 minutes. We can put up points quickly! If our defense can figure out how to get off the field we will have more time to put up more points... like I said... doable, not probable.

Look - Hooker is going to be BEASTLY this year. Its hard to remember but he didnt even start the first two games last year and it came from total shambles.

The only thing will slow us down is that teams have learned to flop to stop our hurry up. While I expect for many teams to try that this year, I also expect Heupel and company to have developed an answer to it since they also have to know it will be the plan.

If the defense is marginally better this year (and I think it will be), we will have a lot more staying power in the 3rd and 4th quarter - something that lacked last year. We would blow the doors of of them in Q1 only to slog down by Q4, the exact opposite of what happened previously. The better defense should help us get off the field and get our O back on.

Hard not to feel optimistic about this year.
