Hire Jerod Mayo as DC

There is nothing wrong with Banks. Our defense was solid last year and we lost both our starting DBs this year. (One being a 1st round talent). Let’s sit back and see how the defense looks next year.

With how good our defense was last year I have no doubt Banks can get us there again.

I understand your perspective.

I don’t think he was the impetus behind the situation, but as the head coach Buck stops with him (be nice if it worked that way in all endeavors).

Still….a hellofa good DC. Almost took the barn to beat Vandy today.
You may be right about his DC skills, but I don’t really see Durkin as a fit with Heupel’s culture.

Heupel needs to make some changes and Mayo would kill it on the recruiting trail and he didnt get a fair shake with the Patriots.

What kind of shake does a coach need with paid professional athletes that are the Top 1% in their sport?

Jerod is one of my all time favorite Vols. A true gentleman and one of the best people I ever met in the Tennessee program. Great player.

BUT, Jerod has NEVER been a coordinator. It would be a major mistake to have a coordinator learn on the job by coaching in the SEC.. Not the best plan...

I think the lack of experience thing is being overplayed here.

He called a NFL defense for a year. I don’t think Banks was doing anything he can’t figure out.

I would still prefer him over promoting Inge

What’s his resume look like in college football.Drop the VFL status and you’ve got Monte Kiffin who was lost against a spread.

Kind of a gamble to hire someone as DC who’s never called plays before.
Head coaches seldom hire people with a greater status than their own. Ex NFL head coach would be a lot of ego in one room. All for it, but surprised if CJH gives it a second thought.
