I think the North Carolina AD would have a little problem with it. Just look at how far he's brought that program in such a small time.

well thats usually the best way to go about this kind of situation, you may want to give the AD a call and let him know how you feel about his "man" and tell him that he could never feel the same way you do about Davis

Butch will not take the job at UT, you would have better luck getting Spurrier, If you begged enough!

Do you guys want SOS. He could care less about UT. I like Phil. Give the man a break. He is a good person and a great recruiter. Unfortunately UT fans are a little out of touch with reality.

Davis is showing everyone right now how he can turn a program around. He understands what it takes to win. In the short time he has been at UNC he has renergized the whole program. He is a proven winner at the college level and he (John Blake) can recruit. Which is what we need. We can't take a chance on an unproven assistant to coach UT.

I would give just about anyone else's left foot to wake up in the morning and see *breaking news* on sportscenter, "Tennessee fires coach Phillip Fulmer".. that would be the most beautiful breaking news ever

They let CMB go to Texas when the basketball program was down. They were on a reverse path to UT's path (e.g. footbal was becoming better than basketball at a basketball school). Now, they have a great basketball team, so it might be okay with them for football to keep improving.

Still, I don't think they could match UT's capacity to pay what it takes.

A lot comes down to how Butch feels about the opportunity. He's obviously poured himself into building a football program at UNC and is showing that he can do that. That's a much greater challenge than building a team at UT.

Tough call on whether he'd leave UNC to come to UT. WIthout an offer, there's probably no way to know.

The Oakland Raiders are my favorite NFL team........I'll pause so you all can stop laughing now.

At least I'm not a bandwagon NFL fan - as crazy as Al Davis is I will still always be a Radiers fan no matter what but I yearn for the day he's no longer in charge over there. Anyway, I follow them almost as closely as I do the Vols and I think Lane Kiffin would be a good fit for the UT job. Unless he goes undefeated the rest of the year and wins the Super Bowl Davis is going to fire Kiffin so he would be available. I think his next natural progression would be to go down to College Division One and take over a program and the Vols would be a good choice for him IMO for what its worth.

I want Lane Kiffin too. Look how he is handling his current situation. Noone would blame him if he had mailed it in with the raiders. I think he would be a great fit

I just know they better not ever let Bruce Pearl slip away, they should be ready to pay Pearl 16.5 million a year if any school shows any interest in him

well i wouldnt be totally shocked to see it, and call me delusional or whatever but im actually kinda expecting it.. idk

It will not be him resigning. Phil makes out to be a good ole boy. But don't let it fool you there is still a big ego behind all that.

Whoever comes to UT to coach football is going to have a heck of a time overcoming the downward spiral of the program. The longer this program goes down, the harder it will be to recruit the best players. The Vols just don't have the name we once had from earlier times. Any coach who takes the program now will have two strikes against him. A change should have happened several years back.

I agree 100%. We are seen as damaged goods by most. It will take a homerun hire to fix this mess we have now. We all have phil and hambone to thank for it.

This is so right. The point you make about him faking the good ole country gentleman is spot on, remember this is the man who sold out the the man who gave him a job...there is ego behind the mask....a bloated one.

I would cry so hard with joy :cray:

As much as I would like to have Butch I don't know if he will leave UNC I hope we throw an offer to him and he takes it.

I guess I could be considered a Lane Kiffin fan because of how he handles his situation in Oakland. With his father being a respected NFL assistant, Monte, he has a good background anyway. From following the Raiders I found out as much as I could about Kiffin. With him being the WR/TE coach at USC and then the Offensive Coordinator I would like his offensive mindset at UT - plus the guy is only 33 years old. I know that Pete Carroll was very high on him and even made Kiffin the recruiting coordinator. UT needs to get back to being Wide Receiver U and I think Kiffin would be able to recruit the players needed to get us back to the upper tier of the SEC again.

I had to cheat and look this up but I knew he was a good OC at USC. Well, in 05 USC averaged almost 50 points a game and almost 600 yards a game offensively. I know that Carroll could veto the plays but Kiffin was still OC and Carroll gave him alot of praises talking about his great offensive mindset and recruiting abilities.

This is one vote with both thumbs waaaaaaaaay up for Kiffin. Its just the attitude adjustment the Vols need before its too late.

i dont think butch would leave UNC.

I agree. We need a good coach but we also need someone who can recruit. Someone who can sell this program to kids. We don't have the instate talent like FLA, Texas, or California. I personally like Bronco Mendenhal or maybe make a pitch for Sarkesian from USC. You know Sarkesian would be able to pull some talent.

he is a good coach, but I still think Chris Petersen is the best fit for us.He is young, gutsy, runs the spread offense and not afraid to pull a rabbit out his hat.For instance, the statue of liberty play against Oklahoma.

GO BIG ORANGE!:yahoo:

Butch doesnt have the pressure to win right away at UNC like he would at UT...UNC just isn't on the same stage as UT or the SEC so he can take losses like yesterdays choke job and not hear as much noise and continue to rebuild.

You gotta be kidding... he's had programs in more NCAA violations than carter has liver pills!

That's why he's ended up @ UNC... the only reason they're winning is of the illegal players he's got on the field.... wait & see!
