Hiestand is Gone (Rumor)

The sprint draw BS is the problem. Unless Chaney changes his offensive philosophy, I don't see any reason why anyone thinks eliminating Hiestand will lead to a more successful run game.

It wont, playcalling was just as much to blame as the blocking scheme.

After the game calling evidenced in the Vandy and UK games, Chaney should have been the first to fall on his sword and get the hell out of Knoxville.

Just a thought, but could the reason Chaney's play calling has been well, not so good lately, be because we can't run the football and he is having to go outside his comfort zone and call plays he normally wouldn't? If we get a new OL coach and our run game improves, maybe the play calling will too. Just a thought.

Easy now, logical thoughts are often ignored around here.

Probably for the best. Chaney gets a chance to show us that he might be a better OL coach than we imagined, or he could be completely terrible. Next year will show us...

Not running the ball is "outside of Chaney's comfort zone?"

Uuh, what?

Thank you for thinking.

I don't recall seeing many power run plays this year. Our rushing attack consisted of: sprint draw, wildcat, and end around. With the exception of the wildcat, the base blocking scheme is going to be similar to pass protection. At least, that's how it was this year.

We need an OC with a decided schematic advantage. If only a coach existed that fit this LARGE requirement...

Based on his play calling, I wouldn't hold my breath that his o-line coaching will be very good.

If your O-line isn't cutting it with run blocking technique, kinda hard to power anything running the ball, isn't it??

This still won't fix the running game unless Chaney goes too or changes his scheme.
