Hey OU fans

One thing I learned with the 2 game matchup with OU, is all the Sooner fans I met were a class act and fun to talk football with.ill say it again, I would love to see our Vols get OU back on the schedule in the near future. I enjoyed this matchup better than any non conference game we've scheduled in a long time. I remember there were quite a few Sooner fans calling for Stoops head after the Kstate loss last year, but he did a awesome job keeping his kids calm and figuring out how to win this game with less talent on the field.

I hope we can do this series more often. I know ya'll are devastated and PO'd, but what a game! It was a great two game series.

I've never seen OU start inside their own 20 yd line on nearly every possession for the first 3 quarters, good lord!

The crowd had an effect on a young o line, like I thought it would.

I like the fact that the D held up and took over as the game went on.

I think OU should've used Mark Andrews more.

Your team is athletic and looks pretty solid. The qb has to make defenses respect the pass, as well as make some down field throws.

Your punter was unreal.

Good luck the rest of the year!!

BOOMER SOONER!

How's the kid doing that got carted off the field last night? It didn't look to good. Hopefully the kid is alright.

From my view, TN let off of the gas. It was painful for me to watch the first half, as TN had my team against the ropes. I felt the punch coming to send OU to the mat. It was a cheap win, IMHO.

I'm puzzled my Vol friends (if I may). Your running game was working. Why not run it in or at least go for it inside the one in the 1st Qtr? To me, as a former coach, going for the FG conveys to my team I have no confidence, not real confidence.

Declining penalties. I get it, used to do it myself but the way OU WASN'T necessarily making big yardage, I'd make us go the distance.

Stretching the field. Gotta take shots downfield. It's almost like your OC didn't want to take any chances. Heck, you've got a 17 pt lead. Press on the gas.

Once OU got the offense moving in the right direction, it was gassing your D. Does TN have a depth problem on the D-line?

Just casual observations. You VOLS are A-OK in my book. We OU fans have been there and done that with our other OC. We know. Ohhhh, we know....

yep...but let me say this. i ahve never blamed refs for a game. but that interference call was the game. for future reference, any time a ball hits the actual stadium it is uncatchable.

1st off, don't discount our kids' effort by calling a "cheap win". They could've quit, they could've gave up on the gameplan etc when they were down for 3 qtrs with ZERO momentum.

It's a 4 qtr game.

2ndly, in a game where you're facing a team with, what is supposed to be a high powered offense, you take the points. Especially early in the game. You figure, well BG put up points on us last week, so surely OU can score in a similar fashion. So you take the gimme points.

I agree with most everything else though. They didn't take any chances and coached to hold on, rather than to assert dominate.

Really reminded me of Josh Heupel last year. Great 1st qtr game plan, jump out early to score, then clueless as to what to call in the 2nd-3rd qtr.

If the Tenn coaches coach fearlessly like they did in the 1st qtr, they can win alot of games this year. Maybe the division. They have the talent.

Well folks, a great weekend. Tremendous experience with the Vol Navy. Great game and wonderfully hospitable Vol fans. Lots to dissect but just got back to my hotel in Franklin so I will write more when I get home.

Ou is a tough team, congrats. It's funny how playing not to lose always ends up a loss for us smh.

We don't know yet, but anytime they get fitted with an air cast it's not good. He is a true freshman rb that enrolled early. The coaches liked him a lot, but considering he already missed some practices this spring with an mcl sprain, I wouldn't be surprised if he got a medical red shirt. The OU boards are saying he's eligible for it. Hope he's ok, as well as the Vols that went out.

What a great thread! I can't believe how many OU fans there are in here. It's cool to see the other team's perspective of our team in a respectful way. I've been so upset I didn't sleep last night and I've wanted to vomit for the last 15 hours. This thread has cheered me up. I usually read more than comment on here but I couldn't help it. Great game.

I appreciate the classy responses of the OU fans in this thread. It would have been easy to come on here and talk trash.

I just wanna come over here and give you guys a dose of reality.
You have a great team with huge talent on both sides of the ball. Y'all should be very proud of your team they will win the sec east this year. No doubt in my mind you guys beat FL and MU, toss up game with Georgia. That being said we all knew this game could go either way and you guys are much better than last year with a young team just like OU.
Takeaways from the game:
TN fans were great stadium was very cool, Knoxville was a lot of fun.
Refs were terrible blew calls for both sides, seemed to miss a lot of holding calls for both Olines. Terrible calls on the TN fumble for TD and PI call for TN in the end zone.
TN defense was stellar until OU started running the ball, and baker was doing well on some QB run plays forced TN to respect both the pass and run second half.
TN offense was impressive dobbs is young but will get there. Wasn't too impressed with Hurd he seems like any average sec RB honestly and striker didn't have much trouble with him all game. Gotta have a passing game when it matters(OU didn't most of the night either)
Oklahoma has horrible special teams
Oklahoma OLine is young and will be a major concern.
Bob stoops are now 3-0 vs SEC since his comments in 2013 the man deserves to be able to call out sec scrubs like finebaum and ESPN.

You guys are a talented team and I'll be pulling for you all year. You will win the east and if OU can get their Oline figured out both teams will surprise. Great game and great atmosphere!

Jalen Hurd had over 100 yards rushing and almost 4.5 yards per carry. You're either mentally handicap, 12, or you have no idea how the game of football works. What did striker have? 2 tackles? Hilarious he is walking around after the game. He ought to be thanking his qb cause he didn't do anything to help OU win

Talked to several OU fans. All of which were a classy bunch. I can count on one hand the jerks I saw and even the ones I saw, I then witnessed another OU fan telling them off and even pointing them out to a police officer.

I saw this happen right before the vol walk. Drunk OU fan getting called out by other OU fans. Very decent people for the most part.

Had some nice OU fans behind me in Section E and
Talked with some other gooduns during the hour plus wait for the Farragut KAT shuttle. I was a little disappointed with the words that some of our fans selected to verbalize their disappointment but I didn't want to debate the finer points of proper application of the first amendment in polite society under the circumstances. I think this Vols team has some quality wins in them if they don't get discouraged. Games like last night I don't really think of as a loss, we just didn't win.

No reason to respond to his post like a bit(#.
Hurd had a good game, but our oline took what could have been an amazing running game and made it a mediocre one.

Hard fought tough game. Tennessee is better than I thought. They basically ran this game for about three quarters but OU finally woke up when it counted most. I am amazed they even managed to score with all the horrible field position, drive killing penalties and dropped passes. Missed calls on both sides. OUs line needs to grow up fast. Tennessee is a real team and I think they'll finally be beating some ranked competition this year.

Havent you heard? UT will be lucky to reach a bowl.

I was in HH. It was actually before the game that happened right as the Vol Walk as about to start.

Oh ok. We had an OU ass get booted at start of 2nd quarter. Drunk, obnoxious, and even another OU fan told cops he needed to go. No issues with any other opposing fan

Tough game between mostly evenly matched teams with similar strengths and weaknesses, except maybe play calling and ability to adjust on our part. Great game, except for the outcome.

Anyway, this thread is classy and what CFB should be about. Have enjoyed lurking and watching a lot of the back and forth this week. Congrats OU for gutting it out and your comeback for the win.

I wondered about that one myself, but I didn't have a good angle on the play at the game. But when I watched it on DVR at the house, the ball actually hit the ground just past the edge of the white paint, which I believe is 3 yards from the back of the end zone. Even if the ball was coming down at a 45 degree angle, then it would have gone over the back of the end zone at a height of around 9 feet. I have no doubt that any receiver on our roster can get up that high, but we'll never know because our receiver was on his back before the ball even got close. Even if the DVR lies, that wasn't even the worst call of the game. That would be the fumble return for a touchdown that OU got screwed out of. Considering all the talk about how UT got hosed on a similar play against BGSU, I think that case is hard to argue.

I was super pissed about that. The interference, not the call.

But, my lurker, 30 year casual fan "football IQ" is pretty low. Is it sometimes (ever?) a good tactic to bust up a touchdown pass play and take the penalty to live to fight for one more down?

Don't know. Asking for a friend.

Guess you failed to see the OG practically engaged in a full on block before the snap. A play that should've made a 3rd and 3, a 3rd and 8. Instead you pick up a first down and then we get a holding makeup call on the next play. We got the yards back but it completely shifted the dynamics of a 3rd and long and possible 4th down decision to a first and long.

Give me a freakin break. The refs blew the whistle that Dobbs' forward progress had stopped well before he dropped the ball. As much as you may not like that, that is what happened. It just doesn't matter that he dropped the ball after the play was blown dead. It would be like getting mad because your team didnt get a fumble that happened after a player is on the ground. Those are just football rules, you guys didn't get screwed out of anything.

On the other hand, the bogus pass interference call decided the game. And the obvious false start on the Oklahoma right guard on the next play that the refs neglected to call.

We sure didn't deserve to win with as crappy as offensive performance as we had. But make no mistake, OU doesn't win this without the refs on their last scoring drive.
