Hey OU fans

From my view, TN let off of the gas. It was painful for me to watch the first half, as TN had my team against the ropes. I felt the punch coming to send OU to the mat. It was a cheap win, IMHO.

I'm puzzled my Vol friends (if I may). Your running game was working. Why not run it in or at least go for it inside the one in the 1st Qtr? To me, as a former coach, going for the FG conveys to my team I have no confidence, not real confidence.

Declining penalties. I get it, used to do it myself but the way OU WASN'T necessarily making big yardage, I'd make us go the distance.

Stretching the field. Gotta take shots downfield. It's almost like your OC didn't want to take any chances. Heck, you've got a 17 pt lead. Press on the gas.

Once OU got the offense moving in the right direction, it was gassing your D. Does TN have a depth problem on the D-line?

Just casual observations. You VOLS are A-OK in my book. We OU fans have been there and done that with our other OC. We know. Ohhhh, we know....

The walk on QB is a stud.. Mark my words all Big 12.. Stop with that.. He can play his receivers didn't do him justice tonight.. Untill it mattered. Shepard is a stud

I wouldn't say he's a stud, but he's a descent QB. Our sloppy D made him look better than he is in my opinion. Our D starting spending way to much time on the field when our O went flat & stall. I'll admit that OU had the better team last year, but anyone watching this game could see that TN had the more talented team this game. To bad our coaches don't know how to put a team away when they got the chance. Watching how we lost tonight is almost harder than watching us get beat by 50. I'm just very disappointed at Butch & his staff for the very vanilla play calling after we got the lead.

Preaching to the choir my friend.

OU made some changes at the half. UT cracked the door, OU kicked it in.

Congrats.

Thanks. But I didn't do anything other than sit in a sports bar here in NY and watch a game I had been waiting nearly 5, 6...hell, maybe 7 years for.

I felt like the script was turning toward the end of the half. Hope I'm not sounding like i'm preaching, just curious as to how VOLs see it. But after looking around on other threads and post, I get it.

Good luck with the rest of the year. You guys will do well.

Absolutely unreal how that game turned out. I'll leave the commenting on it to you guys, but I do want to thank the vast majority of you for the class you've shown over the last year or so now. I have been saying all week that match up deserved a great game and at least we got that along with some fantastic atmosphere at Neyland. Good luck to you the rest of the way, Vols!

Thanks Vols. As expected, it was a good close game.

Good luck to you throughout the rest of the season--I believe you'll do just fine.

I'll give Stoops his props tonight, him and his staff kept calm and kept his kids playing hard. And I still say that Stoops is one of the best coaches in the college game, and the best coach in the Big 12. He showed it tonight. It was a good road win for OU. I really like playing OU, UCLA & Notre Dame for our non conference games. They need to find a way to put each other on their schedules every 5 or so years. It was strange looking seeing OU inside Neyland Stadium. LOL. Hopefully the OU kid that got injured tonight is nothing serious, and he hits the field next Saturday.

I sat right in the middle of it.

I didn't see much diference in players or talent. OUs staff won the game inside of the game. That happens when the rosters are relatively even.

OU is a fine program. Similar in a lot of ways to UT. Your fans showed up and represented well. Im not sure how good OU really is but as long as they trounce Tejas Im cool with em.

Good luck as well.

This OU team is average at best.

I don't believe they're fantastic at the present time by any means. A completely discombobulated offense with some very good talent, but no identity, and a decent to occasionally solid defense.

That doesnt change the fact that they gutted this one out. Particularly their quarterback. He isn't great, but he doesn't seem to acknowledge that notion.

Had you been our head coach tonight, you'd be on your way home with a loss... Most likely a bad one. These are the questions that we ask ourselves.

Props to OU for staying the course, playing hard, and fighting back for the W. Some of the OU players need a lesson on being gracious winners though...

I doubt any serious team will make him look like Steve McNair circa 2000 scrambling around like we did.

He will look like that against any team that forces their defense to play the entire second half without any assistance. Have to do something on offense. Our scheme won't work if we aren't moving the ball. 2 long drives in the 4th, even if they resulted in 0 points would have won this game.

Vol Nation,

We spent the last week discussing this game, sharing opinions, and dissecting every aspect of each team, but I don't think any of us could have predicted a finish like the one we witnessed. OU fans will call it Sooner magic, because that's the term we use when when we manage to snag victory from the jaws of certain defeat. Whatever you choose to call it, it was the most amazing game I've had the pleasure of watching from the stands, and I've been to some pretty incredible games.

I will say that I highly underestimated your defense, partly because of the BGSU game, and partly because Trevor Knight managed to have such great success last year when he couldn't replicate that against anyone else we played. Losing Maggitt for the 2nd half was a killer for your team, because he lived in our backfield in the first half. Your secondary played lights out for the majority of the game. Our numerous dropped passes helped in that regard, but the ability of your corners to keep tight coverage and contest passes on critical downs was impressive to say the least. OUr defense played lights out after giving up the first 17 points, and played to the level that I thought they would bring into this game.

Your team has significantly improved since we last played, and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if UT manages to win the SEC east this year. At this point I'd have to say it's more likely than us winning the Big 12. We just have too many concerns on the offensive side of the ball. But it's still early in the season, and a lot changes and growth will take place for both young offenseses over the course of the year.

Thank you for allowing me to discuss and banter with you this week. It has certainly been a lot of fun. You have a top notch forum here, I hope you know that. Every fan base has its share of nimrods, but I found most of your posters to be classy, knowledgable, and very welcoming. And I wish the board I typically use had something even remotely as great as your site's mobile capabilities. I was truly amazed. I oppologize for being testy for a day or two earlier in the week. This is my first time commenting on another team's forum, so there was definitely a learning curve in regard to dealing with other posters who are more touchy/defensive about their team. I remember how frustrating it was for us in the 90's, so I can relate.

UT has some great pieces in place, and may only be 1 year away from having the talent and depth at every position to be a dominant team. Don't get too down on your boys. This was a hard fought game, like most of us expected, and UT will grow tremendously from this experience. Best of luck the remainder of the season.

I just wanna come over here and give you guys a dose of reality.
You have a great team with huge talent on both sides of the ball. Y'all should be very proud of your team they will win the sec east this year. No doubt in my mind you guys beat FL and MU, toss up game with Georgia. That being said we all knew this game could go either way and you guys are much better than last year with a young team just like OU.
Takeaways from the game:
TN fans were great stadium was very cool, Knoxville was a lot of fun.
Refs were terrible blew calls for both sides, seemed to miss a lot of holding calls for both Olines. Terrible calls on the TN fumble for TD and PI call for TN in the end zone.
TN defense was stellar until OU started running the ball, and baker was doing well on some QB run plays forced TN to respect both the pass and run second half.
TN offense was impressive dobbs is young but will get there. Wasn't too impressed with Hurd he seems like any average sec RB honestly and striker didn't have much trouble with him all game. Gotta have a passing game when it matters(OU didn't most of the night either)
Oklahoma has horrible special teams
Oklahoma OLine is young and will be a major concern.
Bob stoops are now 3-0 vs SEC since his comments in 2013 the man deserves to be able to call out sec scrubs like finebaum and ESPN.

You guys are a talented team and I'll be pulling for you all year. You will win the east and if OU can get their Oline figured out both teams will surprise. Great game and great atmosphere!

Hurd greatly outrushed your 1700 yard back. He looked like the better of the 2 on the field last night. So I guess Perine is a great Big12 back and a below average SEC back.

I hope we can do this series more often. I know ya'll are devastated and PO'd, but what a game! It was a great two game series.

I've never seen OU start inside their own 20 yd line on nearly every possession for the first 3 quarters, good lord!

The crowd had an effect on a young o line, like I thought it would.

I like the fact that the D held up and took over as the game went on.

I think OU should've used Mark Andrews more.

Your team is athletic and looks pretty solid. The qb has to make defenses respect the pass, as well as make some down field throws.

Your punter was unreal.

Good luck the rest of the year!!

BOOMER SOONER!
