1. Tennessee is the only team in the FBS to not return any starters on offensive or defensive lines.
2. Tennessee playing over 20 freshman this year with multiple starters. Old maxim is you will lose 1 game for each 1 freshman starter.
3. Tennessee starts true freshman at defensive end for first time in history of the school.
4. Tennesee OL has two true freshman and no real OT that is SEC caliber. Dooley.
5. Tennessee had a top 5 recruiting class in 2014.
6. Tennessee has another top 5 recruiting class in 2015.
7. Tennessee lost close games to Georgia and Florida by a combined four points.
8. Tennessee got blown out last night by the number 3 team in the country during an away game.

The sky is not falling. I have friends who are alumni of other SEC schools that are coming to me and telling me the obvious: that we have a great coach in place and that they know Tennessee is coming back. Rome wasn't built in a day and CBJ has got a really young team. Please be patient and recognize the pendulum is swinging back. Don't say stupid things like the coaching staff is inept or should be fired. That only reflects pure ignorance.

Things are improving and although we're basically mediocre this year, we'll hopefully qualify for a bowl game, and the building blocks are in place for our team to compete for the SEC Championship potentially as early as next year and definitely the year after.

GBO.

We're playing 21 freshmen, not starting them. That would pretty much be the whole 1st string on both sides of the ball.. Not the only team to ever do this either so it's really not all that special..

Good post for the negavols! It is so clear half of all football fans know jack sh$t about football in general. The problem is they are the loudest. Ask ANYONE who's played football or the so called experts and they will tell you we are going in the right direction. Butch is working with one recruiting class and maybe 10 players from his predecessor, he will 100# get it done in 2-3 years. You can't coach up mediocre talent in the SEC and win. Recruiting turns everything around, look at the team we lost to

First sign your coach isn't going to work out is when other SEC coaches and fans start laying on the compliments while they're beating the stuffing out of you.

People must also remember that most of these boys were playing high school football this time last year and have not had 3 or 4 years in the college strength and conditioning program. We have started 6 true freshmen on the offense and the rest of the SEC had started 7 combined (before last nights game). Somewhere around 57% of Team 118 is either True Freshmen or Red Shirt Freshmen. Hopefully EVERYONE knew that this was not going to be a one or two year turnaround. If you can't see that, take a look at the last 4 recruiting classes, arrange them into what position they play, takes a marker and mark out everyone that is not here any longer and you will see what shape the program really is in. I still think 5-7 this year with best 6-6.

Brian Kelly had offensive line problems early in the season, he made some changes which resulted in improvement. How is Butch Jones that great of a coach who is unwilling to make changes and accept losing?

Who was the last SEC coach to eat this much crap his first two years and still turn it around?

Give me some hope here

The senior is the guy turning the ball over. They are saying in the post "we knew we couldn't turn the ball over", same as they said the last game. Still they turned it over 4 times.

Yet the poster's points still stand. With a very young team and so far to go to turn things around, not surprising results. If we have patience, strong recruiting and experience will turn this around. Not something people in a Win Now culture want to hear.

No one. Since 1992, with the exception of maybe one time, no coach in the SEC has ever gone on to win an SEC title unless he won at least 9 games in year two......Jones ain't winning 9 games in year two......not sure Jones is gonna win 5 games in year two.

Most that are coaching at a high level in the SEC, had winning records by their second season

Vandy, a permanent basement dweller, was able to win 9 games in the 2nd season

They don't have to "win now" in the context of how you posted. I and most on here had no expectation that they would win a championship this year. Most have said 6-7 wins, tops. All I and most want is to see this head coach win games that they absolutely should (Vandy last yr, Florida this yr), and look to be competitive and improving/progressing. Instead, we lose the games that were put of a silver platter for us, get embarrassed by 31 pts and are clearly NOT improving at all outside of the defense.....and even they gave up 400 yds and 34 points.

Ole Miss has more than it's share of what we used to call the cornbread aristocracy, some of whom are good people and some of whom are not. Sounds like you got a bad spot but took the high road. Thanks for representing us with class.
