I have been on the board for a few days now, but I just wanted to say hey as I will be on here off and on till our game against yall on New Year's Eve.

I am very into X's and O's and think of myself as a pretty rational fan.

I come with no desire to burn any of you or the board, but just to come and talk about the upcoming game and to learn about your program.

Welcome, thoughts on your team and the game...

I think the game will be a great match-up.

I don't foresee us being able to pass that well against you guys unless you put 7-9 guys in the box to stop the run. If that happens, maybe we'll have some success passing.

Do you guys play more of a man coverage or a zone coverage? Or a mix is more likely?

Tyrod does pretty well when the box is full and its man coverage. Our Wr's are young, but they don't play young anymore. This was a great year for our receivers in terms of them coming to age.

You all know about Ryan Williams and what he can do, so that will just be a matter of how our line works and what kind of scheme you use. I would bet he probably gets around 100 yards for the game, but the difference will be in whether or not the yards mean a lot or if they are junk yards.

Defense, our secondary is pretty good. Cody Grimm has been playing lights out all year and Kam has been picked on, but I think that is b/c we rely on him maybe a lil too much. The key for defense I think will be whether or not we can stop your inside run game. Our two DT's have had a weird year in that I wouldn't say that they have been playing well. One of them (Graves) hurt his ankle against Miami, and was never the same since, maybe he'll be back.

All in all, playing you guys scares me, b/c I saw how you played against Bama, so I know you are more than capable of beating us.

It will also be interesting to see what all happens b/t now and the game b/c we are dealing with kids and lets hope we can both just bring our full team to the game.

As you can tell, we seem to have a little problem going on right now that until resolved, is much more concerning than the game ahead. Hopefully it will end soon and we can get back to discussing the bowl.

Timing absolutely sucks on this. Distraction for the football team's preparation for the bowl. Distractions have been far too common this year. Not a trend i like to see.

I'm actually looking forward to this game. I think Va. Tech matches very well against Tennessee. IMO, the game will come down to QB play...more specifically J. Crompton. He's been hot as of late and if he can maintain his level of play I think Tennessee will win. Tyrod will have a hard time with Monte's and EB's defense. I suspect Monte will again have EB as a spy on the QB thus taking him away from his game. If Crompton can make some clutch plays and limit the turnovers, I think Tennessee wins.

I agree that it will be a touchdown difference either way, but I see being more offensive than just the 27 points. I could both teams cracking the 24+ point wall.

I honestly can't see Tech putting 27 on yall. I just can't. It's nothing against The Hokies, trust me. I just think your defense is THAT good.

Kentucky put up 24, enough said. Plus it'll be in a dome, which helps the offense immensely. I think that Williams is a really good back and we are going to have a lot of trouble with him. Plus, our defense hasn't been the same down the stretch as it was early on in the season due to a lot of injuries at the LB position. Should be a fun game if we can survive this recruiting stuff without the program getting the ax.

Truth be told, the way to contain TT is not to put a spy on him and take that guy out of the play by watching TT, but it is to not allow your De's to go past TT in the pocket. Nebraska did this against with Suh just sitting in the middle and it work well until 1:58 left in the game.

I actually hope and think our game plan will not be based on TT. I would go with more classic, run run run run playaction run run run.

Welcome to the board

It should be a good game.

Our LB corps is banged up pretty bad and was thin to begin with. This and special teams play are my biggest worries. It seems like VT is one of those teams that always makes a big special teams play to turn a game in their direction.

good luck

Either way, I think this will be a great game with 2 great coaches going up against one another. I respect Virginia Tech greatly as a program. You guys played one hell of a game against Alabama to start the season. I just wish my team would have played better...
