Hey, can we hear from some of you that were at the Kentucky game?

Just want to say God bless you! Could hear you raising hell after the Taylor pick six! How was the experience otherwise? Good time? Treated well? I imagine you were. The vast majority of SEC schools are accommodating to visitors, Jorts being the exception. Commonwealth stadium is pretty dreary. I was at the ‘85 game. That was the glorious year we crushed Miami in the Sugar Bowl. The Daryl Dickey led Vols (subbing for the injured Tony Robinson) obliterated the Wildcats 42–0. We made a hell of a lot of noise and took over their stadium. You folks who went up there are carrying on an awesome Vols tradition. Well done!

I went to the game last weekend by myself was treated nicely I was sitting in the end zone with the UT band. The section next to us were almost all Kentucky fans and they yelled at us saying we were disrespecting them cause we did not stand and chanted VOLS while there band was playing my "My Old Kentucky Home" silly people the young girls in front of me asked if we should stand and I said NO it is not the national anthem and when we played Rocky Top there DJ played Rap music really loud to try and drown us out.
Our young fans also booed when Kentucky players would flop then when UT players kept going down after almost every PAT the Kentucky fans would start yelling at us saying why don't you boo your own players for flops it was a very amusing night with our fans and Kentucky fans yelling back and forth. On my way out of stadium a few Kentucky fans congratulated me on the win but said they hate the color orange and said it is also a God awful color

You should have told them that blue is the color of the ocean, which is where your football program belongs.

I was there next to the Tenn section with all Ky fans. Actually had a very good experience. Maybe a few mean looks and a couple one finger salutes but i have learned after many years of going to away games, if they treat you to nice its because they had beaten us or they knew they were gonna beat us. So i like it when they dont treat you so nice.

Yeah well, they think their Blue Bloods.
Looking forward to beating them in Rupp this season.

Kentucky fans are that passionate about football. Their are obviously some hooligans within their fan base, but even their hooligans don’t care that much for football. It must be because deep down they expect to lose.

I’ve only been there once maybe it was back in 08. We did win. They scored in the second have to get it within 2 scores and their fans started to get into it some. That didn’t last long.

It seems their level of interest is about the same now as it was then. After the no face mask call and then the unsportsmanlike penalty on their coach, any respectable hooligan would litter the field. I’m not saying that’s the right thing to do, but we are talking about the hooligan part of every fans base that all programs have. Even a fan base as sophisticated as ours have our fair share of hooligans. Is beer sold at Kroger? Stadium?

I would like to see a montage of flops. I realize that we would be a part of it too.

Booing injuries is a slippery slope.

Oh they’re fixated on our color. It’s borderline bizarre. This from a school that’s just blue and nicknamed the Wildcats like half the high schools in America. They’re generic. They have zero brand identity and ours kills them. Guess that’s why they stole the checkerboard pattern.

I've been to most of the recent away games at UK. My buddy moved up there to Georgetown so gives me an excuse to go see him and catch up. I've never really had any trouble from UK fans. There will always be a few mostly drunk bad eggs, but way more good than bad up there. Nice stadium. They hate us more than we hate them though.

We were there in Section 8! My wife and I have made almost every UT/UK game in Lexington since we moved to Kentucky several years back. Everyone we sat directly around was super nice and cordial. A couple of obnoxious yellers a couple of rows behind us, but nothing major. They did their best to drown out Rocky Top after we scored, but I just listened close to our band and sang loudly when it got to the chorus. About 10 rows behind us, a couple of guys got in a drunk scuffle, but they were both UK fans, pretty funny stuff. Most people just rolled their eyes and told them to knock it off. Everyone was excited and loud when they ran out through the smoke at the beginning, and then went dead quiet when Payton took that opening screen pass for 6. It was glorious. We've literally never had a bad trip there, fan experience wise. Even in the concourses or parking lots after the game after a Big Orange victory.

I sat on the 50 yard line in section 206 row 7 surrounded by all blue. I went with my close friend who is a die hard KY fan. I don't instigate ever and am always respectful. I was cussed at beginning in the parking garage on the way to the stadium and about every other street I got a gracious " F*** Tennessee along with some other kind words. From the time I got to my seats until right before kickoff was the same from random fans a few rows away. I knew these were directed towards me as I literally was the only person in orange. I did not say a single word until a KY fan behind me who was carrying on touched my toboggan and said F Tennessee. At that point I turned around and looked him in his eyes and told him that if he touches me again Ill kill him. I told him say whatever you want but if you touch me I will kill you. His friends apologized for him and so did he. My good friend asked ifi I was going to need bond money and I told him no we should be fine. After the minor altercation I got to enjoy the game and talked football with some KY fans. The walk back was fine as most KY fans were so destroyed that their heads were pointed straight down. I will definitely sit in the UT section next time to celebrate with Vol Nation.

Interesting UK fans objecting to Vol fans not standing for My Old Kentucky Home because I had the opposite experience. Having been born in KY, I do have some sentiment for the state itself but certainly not UK, in fact far from it. In 1974 when I was in grad school, two UK undergrad students were in many of my classes. They were good guys and we studied together sometimes. All three of us were from Louisville. I got my student ticket for the game which was in Neyland separately from them; frankly, I didn’t think I would be near them and didn’t want to be. Coincidentally, the two guys I knew and 6 of their friends somehow ended in the row behind me! At halftime, the UK band (or whatever you called that sound) performed and played my Old Kentucky Home. I stood in respect for the family and friends from Kentucky. The most obnoxious one of the friends of the guys I knew got very angry because he said I was mocking the song and was lunging at me to pick a fight because I WAS standing. The two guys I know held him back and told him to quit since I was from Louisville. The guy pulled back but was still fuming and cursing because now that he was told I was not mocking them, now I am a traitor! The Vols won 24-7 that day. I remember the huge sack of the UK QB that day by the great linebacker Andy Spiva whose life ended just a few years later at a tragically young age.

Thanks to spell check I was able to use such a large word. I wasn’t sure what post you quoted so as I looked over it I realized I probably should have done a better job of proofreading.
