Heupel will figure out the QB position

Why are you worrying about the third string qb? Milton is obviously more talented. Sit back and watch Heupel do what his does best. I think you will be pleased by the end of the year.

If Milton is not getting the ball where it needs to be, and he is not, how does that make him obviously more talented?

I see no evidence whatsoever that Milton is more talented. Neither do you if you are honest.
Milton Senior year HS stats: 1317 yds. 10 TD's, 6 int, Completion rate = 48%, 146 YPG
Bailey Senior year HS stats: 4670 yds, 50 TD's, 10 int. Completion rate = 71%, 292 YPG

There is a real difference.
Better get on Vol calls and tell Heupel to put in Bailey. You know because of his high school stats, most of which he amassed throwing to 5 star tight end Arick Gilbert. Gilbert not once but twice went to other schools instead rejoining his high school qb at the college level.

How can anyone defend what Joe Milton did as a QB against BG. Did they watch the game ? I am not saying he cant ever be good but as of right now he is not a good QB. He is the same as he was at Michigan. Hooker has a better resume than he does . Bailey Throws a more catchable ball and a way better deep ball and can pick up just as many yards running as of right now . If Joe M plays the same against Pitt he needs to watch the others play . Its really that simple. Unless he was promised so many games as a starter when he came to UT to prove himself would be the only way any coach would trott him out their over and over.

Did you watch the game? Also do you know anything about defense? The reason he did well the first quarter is because BG had more in the box and only dropped 5. When his stats fell off, BG was dropping eight every down. There’s a reason we ran for 330+ yards. It doesn’t really matter who you play when the D is dropping 8 every snap. There’s not much room to throw so you take what you can get and eat up yards on the ground and that’s exactly what we did. Y’all were expecting a 300+ yard game for Joe Milton but are failing to realize BG took away our throwing game and we still ate their lunch. Be patient and don’t write him off yet. Let’s see how this Saturday goes and then we can revisit this conversation. Fair enough?

Time will tell if Heupel is stuck to his guy or not. What I would have liked to see is HH get more. But we didn't. I just really don't like the comments Milton has made to the media. From his first interviews till now. Some of it may be how he was coached at Michigan but he as a player should own his play. He didn't play well. Period. His comments make me think his attitude is part of what gets him into trouble on the field.
I don't care as much about his overall cockiness. I think you are absolutely right about his post-game comments. You have to be either lying or totally deluded to think that's a "good" performance.

Let's hope Heupel figures out Milton is Guarantano before Bailey checks out.
Do what? You guys are seriously stuck on this kid. At no point did he lead for the job either before or after Milton arrived. I don't know why. It could be his lack of athleticism or he may simply not be that impressive as a passer when compared to the others. No idea. But he didn't win the job. Apparently he isn't #2 either. At some point, you have to consider that.... he didn't win the job because he didn't deserve to win the job.

You are ready to compare him to one of the worst starting QBs in UT history after one game? Jump to conclusions much?
I don't think so. His play previously is consistent with his performance. Its not an anomaly. Maybe he just isn't very good. And maybe just maybe if we have any luck at all Heupel can transform him.

Good news is that coach JH isn't pruitt. He ain't married to his qb like we were to JG. He yanked his starting qb at ucf. If Joe doesn't step up we will see the other guys. I'm confident in our coaches to handle the qb position for the first time in a long time.

Anyone check what Michigan did today with McNamara ? They also played 2 other qbs getting them reps. Western Michigan is a far better team than what we saw.

I agree. I think Milton will never be the running threat that Cam was, but he has the talent to be a better college passer.

And you find the evidence for that -- in how many games that Milton has played? I am ok with Coach leaving his starter in that game for so long, but the reality is that Milton and his receivers under performed.

I know he played very little at Michigan and that he hurt his thumb, but his stats there and in high school were worse than bad. I think a lot of people are thinking that he has to be a good QB because he is a physical specimen. That alone does not make him a long time starting QB anywhere. Potential is one thing. Great WB talent is another. As it have said before, I hope coach JH make him the best WB who has ever played the game, he has a long way to go and a short time to get there. I want Tennessee to win and I want to win as early as possible. We will see much progress is made next Saturday.

Just finished reading 7 pages of this and all I can say is WOW! How many posters even watched CHs post game press conference? He in NO way defended Milton. If anything he called him out for poor play. Many here are already declaring CH to be JP 2.0 because JM stunk it up in game 1. That is laughable. If JM doesn't step up he will be benched. I would bet my house on that. As for Bailey I like him as much as anyone else but obviously he didn't win the job in pre-season practice. As another poster mentioned he did surpass BM in that time. If he is a competitor he will keep working hard and most likely eventually get his shot. I could give a rat's @!! which one starts as long as they produce. And don't get me wrong I was FAR from impressed by JM in that game. Have never seen a qb stand that flat for that long but I just don't consider myself to know more than the folks who actually get paid to coach an SEC program. We will see how it all unfolds. GBO!

I think he was pretty inconsistent on the night but I do like the offense they are running now. For week one, the team as a whole took care of business.

The real question is can Joe Milton put this offense on his back and will them down the field? I didn’t like the turnovers and he held the ball way too long a few times. But I liked that he was willing to tuck the ball, get the yards and move the chains. Look at it this way: it basically took him 3 quarters at UT to figure out what took 3 years for JG. I’m not saying he’s the guy but after one game I can’t rule him out. If not then I’m confident one of the backups will be.

I mean everyone keeps saying one game. Its not one game. Do so research these issues go back to HS. He isn't accurate. His stats from Michigan say the same. He hasn't learned anything in 4 years of college. He isn't going to start now.

This QB position is pretty well figured out for now.

Heupel made it abundantly clear the job is Milton's to lose.

I am not remotely impressed with anything I saw out of his time at Michigan and was having some Guarantano PTSD last night.

Heupel gets to live with the decision and not me though.

Watching the Michigan game, Milton for SURE would not be starting had he not transferred.
