I said 10 million 💰 a year staff. Their were coaches out their we could have hired for the money. Knoxville is a cool place.

Could this be where Steele comes into play? I found it odd they hired him as an assistant to a lucrative contract possibly knowing that they were gonna fire JP. Steele was never gonna be HC but his defenses have always performed decently in the SEC. He has that experience that can complement JH. Football has changed, Defenses are not expected to always hold offenses out of the endzone but more or less have a couple of takeaways and stops that give the offense a few more possessions. This is just my opinion but it would make sense that the JH could be contingent on him keeping Steele on as DC until the ship is righted. If this is the case and given that Steele was on the market it would have been a smart move to get him under a contract so nobody else can snag him.

My gosh, this feels EXACTLY like the Butch Jones hire. Same defense of the hire being made. Same objections being made.

I don't know what coach, but their are alot out their and yes they are coaching at other schools probably . My point is I don't think we even tried.
Heck Jeff Fisher said he would be interested did we even kick the tires on it, no we didn't. Heupel was his man all along.

A lot of people are underwhelmed by this hire.

I for one am not.

Our goal and our Achilles heal has been a lack of offense. Heupel Offense production is as good or better than 85% of the ncaa.
We have two capable DC with Ansley and Steele and can keep both if we want by making Steele LB Coach/Asst. Head Coach

My only concern is how well this bunch will recruit. If we can hold our own their, I expect good things from this group.

Maybe we will look like Ole Miss last season. Just have outscore teams to beat them. Would be better than having an offense that scoring 20 was its ceiling. And I think we have better D personal that Miss right now.

A washed up NFL coach with barely a winning record and no recruiting ties whatsoever? I just don't understand why he would be considered a "better choice"

Kiffin was a failure in the NFL, Saban failure in the NFL , Fisher was at least a winning coach in the NFL who could of at least put together a heck of a staff. Instead we end up with Josh Heupel. Guess maybe they just don't care.
Or Herman, Or Kiffin, Or Cambell, Or Patterson, Or Petersen, Or Mack Brown but I'm sure UNC thought he was washed up also. We hire up and supposedly comers and get crap results. You'd think after the last three they would care .

There is no difference between Kiffin and Heupel other than Heupel has a better record and has owned him head to head.
