Heupel Thursday Presser: Pitt Week

What does Heupel mean when he says it will be different this week than last week when talking about McCoy and Tillman? Is he saying these two are going to stay on the field?

What Ru4real said and the fact that Pitt plays man to man press coverage on receivers. You have to work to get separation.

He expects Pitt to play within their D philosophy. That should mean a good bit of man coverage as Pitt tries to stop the run and pressure the QB. The question is whether he will be as stubborn about it as he was about being "run first" last week on O. They threw it 24 times for 308 yds and ran it 38 times for 76 yds.. still under 100 when you back out the sacks. Ainge did a segment on it the other day. Narduzzi is a proud, stubborn guy. Ainge suggested he didn't try to keep his OC from leaving in part because he thought they threw too much last year.

He reminds me of Pruitt in both the way he wants to play the game and his stubbornness.

I wonder if we will have more successful playing bigger physical receivers against man or using speed. I could see them alright giving up a couple 10 yard receptions to Bru if that means someone one like Hyatt or Holiday isn't burning them for 50+. A bend but don't break philosophy and try to win in the condensed field.

Ainge didn't have to suggest it, Narduzzi literally called out the OC for that after the season. Which is crazy because they had an NFL QB and the best WR and future NFL player. Plus they were balanced. Narduzzi has issues, he also called out his current OC after the WV game this past week

And IIRC he called out some players too... especially his WR's.

I think we can run the ball no matter who is in the game. But I think Sampson is more of a game breaker than either of Small or Wright
Well, the way our offense is, you want to use as many good rbs as possible.

So Sampson AND Small, Wright will gash the defense.

We are thin at RB, but I definitely like the way our guys run the ball. I’d like to see a little more push up front and open running lanes this weekend. I know some of that is our scheme offensively though. Small is definitely our power back. I think Wright is bound for a big game. He’s shifty and quick. He also seems to have the worth ethic/effort to be great. Sampson showed flashes last week of being phenomenal too. He just needs to get more experience now.

I think Sampson gashes the Pitt D
I think Sampson is more talented than both honestly.

You can call me miserable unpositive, but this is your 3 responses in the first 9 responses of the thread. I'm also excited about Sampson. I am hoping he is Alvin Kamara 2.0, but I thought my reply was merited.

Pitt DBs are not Ball St DBs....it will be a higher level of competition and they won't be able to run free all over the place.

I like Sampson too, but no matter how much we like him, he’s 3rd on the depth chart. He has to play ti have a big game.
Yeah he is third and they will likely play 3 guys and roll with who's hot. The coaches have said he had a good camp and played like it. That's a positive sign. I know iy was Ball St but he looked good. Wright also looked good. Small is the better short yardage guy out of those 3 imo.
