Heupel/Staff Given Raises (Heupel Extension?)

While paying college coaches this amount of money is insanity if you compare to average tickets holders who won't make $5M in 20 years..... I'm glad we don't have a body of work from the coach which includes many bone-headed decisions, under-handed "deals" and ultimate losses.

It is what it is I guess. Thank you ESPN for super-inflating college coaches salaries and thereby removing most coach's loyalties to a school and its fanbase. ESPN has turned most coaches into high-profile, widely publicized, dollar-chasing prostitutes.

Completely disagree with this. While I do like this staff, they have not proven anything to deserve raises. Tim Banks making 1.5 million???

I was vehemently opposed to Pruitt's extension because he had no leverage and he had not earned it.

Heup has so far earned it, it aligns him more with the marketplace, and he has more leverage with the Nebraska opening than Pruitt ever had (i.e., no P5 was ever going to hire Pruitt as HC)...

$5 million????

CJH is getting close…..

The 6 mill it took to repair Steve Austin would be 41 million in today's money. Or about 48% of the money it would take to fire Jimbo at Texas A&M. Aggies may want to rethink heavily incentivizing their own coach's failure in the future.

It’s premature IMO. I prefer these things to go down after the season, but it’s not my money.

Banks is severely overpaid.
This is one of the lowest paid staffs in the SEC. Also, are people seriously complaining about Banks getting a $100,000 raise as a coordinator? Golesh got a $450,000 a year raise. People want us to compete for championships, then complain when our coaching staff gets raises that amount to still being near the bottom in the SEC salary wise. Smdh. They were given the bare minimum required to keep staff continuity after this season. If we win 9+ games, this still won't be enough.

At this early, I am glad to see raises instead of extensions. I would say he has earned something after his body of work from last year and being able to beat a ranked team on the road for the first time in quite awhile but worthy of a 25% raise? a bonus increase would seem more apropos.

I would have waited to see if we have the gators for dinner before I would have given any raises. I think a win there and a 4-0 start this year and most would consider a raise well justified.
Pretty sure he was extended. Not sure the structure of his original deal though. This one runs through 2028. These contracts are so favorable to the coaches now though and getting more ridiculous year by year. This probably wasn’t a bad deal for both parties.

I stand by my opinion. And Banks is overpaid.

I hope this is seen as a down payment assuming things continue in the right direction.

This is where the AD makes his money. You have to pay the right guy the right amount at the right time. You can overpay the wrong guy but you can also underpay the right guy. I sincerely hope this is something White and the Admin offered and not something Heupel had to ask for. There's a dividend to be had when you take the initiative to take care of your folks.

I am not so sure he is overpaid. Does the defense need to improve? Of course, it does but so does the talent level on the defensive side of the ball. I am not ready to say he is or isn’t overpaid until our recruiters give him better players to work with.

You're right. It should've been done before the season started.

or after? i think at the conclusion of their first two seasons is a better indicator of whether or a not a coach gets raise or extension instead of at the end of their first 15 games. we havent even seen how year two versus the SEC plays out.

Point taken, but we also thought we had no offensive talent, and we are one of the best offenses in the country.

I don’t think highly of Banks, but last week’s performance was outstanding (in general). More of that and my opinion will change quickly. Just my thoughts……

So i just looked at the details of Banks’s contract and this wasn’t a raise at all. His 3 year deal was structured with 100k bumps after year 2, and year 3.

So maybe a couple of the raises were pre-determined. I know Golesh's wasn't and we need to hold on to him as long as possible. The fact these are only raises and not extensions makes it fine with me but I obviously want to keep our staff together.

Nebraska paid an extra 7.5 million to get rid of Scott Frost 3 weeks faster. That's well over 100k an hour just so they don't have to see his face around anymore.

Pretty amazing stuff. Nebraska will surely still stink whether he's in the building or not.

I think that was part of why they did it. People there don't hate Scott Frost. He brought them alot of good memories as a player. I believe they felt bad that they had to do it. I think it was more of a fair well present for him than anything. I formed that opinion after talking to my die-hard Nebraska neighbor about it.

I think this is good for recruiting plus morale for the HC, staff and even team. He’ll get another raise if we somehow win 9-10 games this year.

I mean shouldn't a decent coach at least be able to get them to 6-6?

He and this staff deserve every penny so far… staff retention and or staff upgrading will be crucial these next few years. I’d love to see some stability and consistency to fully see what we are capable of doing here. I think from a staffing standpoint we have the coaches to get us back to championship football. You could argue on 1 or 2 position coaches but in large part we have the staff it takes. GBO!
