At this early, I am glad to see raises instead of extensions. I would say he has earned something after his body of work from last year and being able to beat a ranked team on the road for the first time in quite awhile but worthy of a 25% raise? a bonus increase would seem more apropos.

I would have waited to see if we have the gators for dinner before I would have given any raises. I think a win there and a 4-0 start this year and most would consider a raise well justified.

Agree……but talk about stressful. Im actually surprised “older” coaches dont have massive heart issues.
Here's another perspective on your comment, that most coaches don't discuss. I get being prideful, but Coach O has a point.
"Coach you got 17.1 million dollars on your contract, we're going to give it to you. I said what time do you want me to leave, and what door do you want me out of brother?"

As far as I can tell, this is a raise - not an extension, which I'm good with.
Just like a 'real' job, give the guy a shot and when he exceeds expectations give him a bump.

Only ones here that make me even the slightest bit nervous are Banks and Golesh.
At 1.5 I think the jury is still out on Banks, but let's see how the defense holds the rest of the season.
Golesh not getting to 1.5 makes me wonder if that's enough to keep him if a mid-major or lower level P5 were to come calling as HC.

I do appreciate that the two spots where we see the most improvement got the biggest push - OC and Special Teams.
Question though - does the S&C guy not get paid out of the football budget or is that split across the entire AD since he is 'technically' S&C Coordinator for the entire department?

Yea, $17 million will take away some stress;)

I know these things are normal but what’s the use of a contract if you are going to change the terms every time the wind blows. Two parties sign said contract, both parties fulfill their obligations, after all they both agreed. I’m old school if you can’t tell.

Nebraska paid an extra 7.5 million to get rid of Scott Frost 3 weeks faster. That's well over 100k an hour just so they don't have to see his face around anymore.

Pretty amazing stuff. Nebraska will surely still stink whether he's in the building or not.

It's just the way of the times. Do we think Heup is at least the 11th best coach in the SEC? Pay up. If we go on a run this year and finish above expectations, I'd expect another raise and/or extension next year.

Of course, everyone with desired skills can leverage what they would be paid on the open market to get more money from their employer.

But, college coaches who are winning may have way too much leverage because there are so many horribly brain dead athletic directors out there sitting on mountains of booster money with almost zero accountability.
