"[Heupel] has established himself as the premier play caller in America"

Proves you can win a natl title without a great third down defense.
Chavis was LSU's DC under Les Miles, who was their DC when he won his Natty? I really don't remember or care enough to look it up. Spurrier made many DC's look bad during that time. Fulmer and company would have looked different with a different Florida coach ( except Urban Meyer).[/QUOTE]
I think Bo Pelini was DC

Wow, I think those posts were reversed. Was that an ACC officiating crew. I was responding to you, not the other way around. Too funny.

You are correct. I remembered Chavis being their DC at one point. Just couldn't remember the exact time frame.

I know that he is not popular here, and justifiably so, but Finebaum stated that "Hendon Hooker [is] the key to everything, and so is Josh Heupel, who I think has established himself as the premier play caller in America... They have such a fast-break offense that it stifles teams, especially when they’re on the road and they take the crowd out of it. [Yesterday] was an amazing statement win for Tennessee, but they have bigger fish to fry (against Alabama).”
He's coached for 3.5 years. He has a Heisman QB he didn't even start. Kind of premature, but I like the guy and if he keeps it up, then we can say that and if make sense.

I understand it’s difficult to feel in games, but the defense is improving. Still some gaps at DB, but the game plan Banks put together for LSU was solid, and it was executed well. Not SEC level yet, but it is getting better. I wouldn’t throw the towel in on Banks.
Not SEC Level? They held LSU to a total of 55 yards rushing for 2.0 yds per carry. They gave up 300yds passing on 45 attempts for 6.0 yd average. they had 5 sacks and 9 TFL's. Everything about that was A SEC level domination. It was LSU not Ball State.

WRONG! You are taking one sample from the body of work and using that as the foundation of your argument.

I clearly pointed out the positives from Saturday’s game in the post you responded to. Look at the defensive stats from this year and argue we have an dominant SEC level defense.

Here are some interesting stats for the Def.

Opp Points/Game17.8 (#17) - the most important stat
Opp Yards/Game396.8 (#73) - Skewed more than most teams due to the number of plays opponents get to run against us by default
Opp Points/Play0.225 (#11) - as opposed to our Point/Play which is 0.603 (#5)
Opp Yards/Play5.0 (#31) - opposed to our 7.1 (#7)
Opp 3D Conv %32.00% (#25)
Opp 4D Conv %50.00% (#46)
Opp RZ Scoring %65.00% (#8) - another more important stat
Opp Rush Play %40.25% (#4) - teams got to keep up, so they have to pass, and when they try to balance it at all by running it we stuff it - baiting them into getting into a battle that we win
Opp Yards/Rush2.8 (#6)
Opp Rushes/Game31.8 (#24)
Opp Rush Yards/Game89.4 (#7)
Opp Pass Play %59.75% (#128) - more testimony to teams passing against us more than other teams, because they have to, and because they get more plays by default as already mentioned
Opp Completion %62.16% (#74) - This one could get a bit better IMO but still not terrible when we have a QB completing 70%
Opp Yards/Pass6.9 (#51) - This one tells an interesting story, it proves again that teams are having to pass, we're a little better than half the pack here due to no one being able to rush on us, so their total yards are still lower than over half the FBS schools
Opp Passes/Game44.4 (#130) - testament again to just how many times teams are getting opportunities to pass
Opp Pass Yards/Game307.4 (#123) - same as above
Opp Int Thrown %2.25% (#75) - I believe this stat has to do with the way they are being coached on zone plays to just keep everything in front of them from their 30 to our 30, maybe it could be a bit better though.
Sack %5.93% (#64) - I'd like to see this a little higher, it would mean we're getting off the field even more on defense
Opp TO Margin/Game-1.0 (#15) - We take care of the ball and we get extra opportunities with the ball when the other team makes a mistake.
Takeaways/Game2.0 (#18) - same as above

this doesn't say domination in the way that we think of a traditional dominate SEC defense, however it may just be attributed to the way they're teaching defense to fit in with our offensive mold. You can't have your corners flying around all day chasing receivers on every play and sticking on them like glue, if they are going to be out there a while and you need to make plays down the stretch. I'm not saying they're perfect at what they're doing, but I see the reasoning behind it with our offensive philosophy. Maybe when we're deeper in the defensive backfield we can approach it slightly different and be able to rotate more DBs in.

Review the last 6 minutes of this years Florida game and prepare to repent.

He will be criticized his entire time here, regardless of performance. We can’t help ourselves. Just ask John Chavis, Monte Kiffin, Justin Wilox, etc etc. We’ve never been satisfied and never will. Enduring criticism is in the job description
Ignoring baseless criticism is part of the job you mean...

5-0 is the key stat...

Every week the negavols say stuff such as ...next week will give us a true indication of this team. We heard it going into Pitt, Florida, LSU, and now Alabama. What are they going to say if we actually beat 'Bama or GA? Enjoy the ride everyone!
We could lose to Bama 34-31 and they would say “see our coaching is awful, we can’t even beat Bama” 😂
