Why is nobody talking about how well the offense was schemed? Out of 66 plays, we're focusing on one single play that had busted assignments on the line. What about some of the absolute brilliant play designs that specifically schemed people wide open? Other than penalties (most of which are false starts and holding due to a new scheme) and turnovers, I was fairly pleased with what I saw, especially once Hooker got in.

Here's the thing. You preach to your team to never quit, keep fighting.
Coach needs to take the lead. I would have been on the field asking for better clarification on the field goal return. Both penalties happened after the change of possession.
You have to challenge the Hooker spot. Coach said he asked the side judge. That ain't good enough. Throw the red flag and let everyone see 15 angles.

He seemed indecisive. Same with the field goal return pentilies.
It seemed to me as he described communicating with the line judge that the refs were looking at it. My take was he didn't feel like he could get an overturned call

Do you not question this?

Not trying to knock you, I’m really not…but your misspelling of penalties was one of the greatest all time that I’ve ever seen, and it made me laugh for the first time in about 4 hours.

Everybody on VN has been saying it should've been a QB sneak. Maybe, but I like the naked bootleg there. Unfortunately, I guess we'll never know.

Anybody know if Hooker was supposed to read those two guys crashing in from the sides, and keep the ball and circle around them for the walk-in TD?
I assume Hooker missed the read on this one.

There were a couple of play calls that could have been better thought out , but overall yeh , it's the execution , not the play calling and scheming causing our stumble. Pitt started this game the better team. They were the better team before the season even started. They had experience in key positions with stable coaching , where ours was green on the vine . I got pissed watching a lot of the clumsy mess like everyone else did, but people had to know a loss was likely coming from this game. I will say I was surprised to see them keep it a 1 score game. Part of it was luck that Pitt bumbled some things in their own way , but we didn't collapse and just let them run away with it when EVERYTHING was going wrong . There's light down the tunnel and it's not a train. We'll get there.

Heupel should come out and say the loss is on him for many reasons.
1. He started Milton who can’t hit the broad side of a barn at 20 yards. With Hooker in the game from the start, Hooker hits the seam down the middle for a TD and at least one of the other horribly overthrown long balls would’ve been caught. Milton should never sniff a game field again.
2. Discipline. Having nearly 3 times the penalties as the other team is one of many ways to lose a game.
3. 4th and 1/2 yard with 5 minutes left and everyone with an IQ above 60 knew there was a 90% chance he’d call the RB up the center and guess what. They were right. The ball is turned over on downs and the Vols lose a very winnable game. That was a very Pruitt / Dooley type play call.

If Hooker would’ve started the game our Vols would’ve won by 10 or more.
The loss was on the team for many reasons, too. And you wonder why nobody good wants to come to Tennessee. It’s probably in large part because of you know it all, armchair coaches that talk like you really know what you’re talking about but are only looking to criticize. There was a lot of good to be gleaned from today’s game. I haven’t seen a Tennessee team compete the way they did today in a long time. How about some positive for a change or go somewhere else with all the negative. It’s getting tiring to see it from people who call themselves fans…

Tennessee…making bad coaches rich since 2010
You guys act like you’re former coaches or players and it’s obvious you’re not. The team showed some grit & toughness we haven’t seen in a long time and all you do is pick apart mistakes. We still had a chance to win. We’ll NEVER have a decent coach if every time the current coach makes a mistake, even amongst a pile of good, we criticize and begin calling for another one. Do something different and support our coach because if he leaves, with the current state of our program, we won’t get anyone any better…

Reading this makes me feel like I'm in a time machine, and it's 2018, no 2013 wait maybe 2010?

Hooker is trash too.

Bailey is the only one with any sort of ceiling.

Hes Butch 2.0 and I’ve known that since day 1.
Who would you of hired? With all of our restrictions and things coming nobody would touch this place. He is here for the long haul wether we like it or not.
Time to recognize where we are as a program. Not the 90s anymore.

Not expecting 10 wins but I am expecting us to not give the opponent almost a football field and a half in penalties. I'm expecting us to pick the right QB from the get go. I'm expecting our coaches to actually do their job and coach and not lose to mid-low tier ACC schools on our home turf.
Believe it or not, the ACC has some pretty good football teams. And if you haven’t noticed, the last several years, we have been a mid-low tier SEC team.

I’m not a former coach nor a player, but, I can tell you that the past few hires have been absolute failures and I don’t need to be a coach or a player to see that. I’m behind Heupel but he has to prove it. I bleed orange, however, my statement was correct. We’ve paid millions to several incompetent coaches.

The admin have buried this program so far that it’s not even a desirable job anymore. I pray Heup is the answer, I really do. We need something. But at the end of the day, these people make millions of dollars. They deserve to be criticized for lack of production and the fans are not to blame. You, me and hundreds of thousands more tune in and fill that stadium week after week and for what?

Sorry for my rambling but I’m really fed up with everything. It’s just being a Vol fan for over 30 years, I can remember a time when a game like today would’ve been a tune up opponent. It seems like everyone goes out and makes the right hire except us and we deserve better. Sorry if that makes me sound spoiled, but after 12 years of misery, I think we ALL deserve it.

Some folks accept reality and some folks like sunshine pumped up their rears. I’m a realist. The fact is that UT is not very good with Milton behind center. He’s horrible.
