Heup to LSU noise and where does TN job rank?

Not to mention Golesh is average and the UsF fans already want him gone
Average? He took over a program that had gone 15–43 in the five years before his arrival. He’s 21–15 and has a legitimate chance to produce their first 10-win season in eight years. Oh, btw, a lot of UCF fans wanted Heupel gone because the program had regressed in each of his three years there, and they were happy when he left for Tennessee. Think they feel differently about that now?

He’s 21-15 and getting out talented and outcoached despite having the most NIL $ of any G5 program. Hes on track to finish 5th in the AAC. He has been average and is 1-7 vs AAC teams with a winning record.

They are correct

A lot of UCF fans wanted Heupel gone? Are you saying a majority? How do YOU know?

Yes, I personally know every UCF fan on earth. I took a poll of them after the conclusion of their disappointing 2020 season. I put the number of fans who wanted him gone at precisely 27.6%. Next time I’ll make sure to use the word “some” instead of “ a lot”.

Maybe they can bring back Jeff Scott since they’re so disappointed with Golesh. And you have no idea how much USF, or any other G5 program, or any program for that matter, spends on NIL. Unless you’re just going by valuations or internet estimates.

They will likely get someone who will do better when Golesh goes to place like Arkansas or Auburn for 3 years and gets fired

I actually am not sure that is the case anymore in college FB. Maybe prior to NIL/transfer rules. Although now seems like these coaching changes now are much less predictable than before. If you look at UT compared to LSU. You almost have to give the nod to UT at this point. With LSU currently trying to battle with BK on his payment. On top of that they are currently with an interm AD. I just don't think LSU is in the shape to pull from a top program.
Nah...still a heck of a lot more FB talent in the State of Louisiana and neighboring Texas.

Not even close. I doubt Golesh leaves USF. He can coach there forever, has a huge alumni base, and is in a recruiting hot bed. Coming back to UT would be a bad move for him.
I would trust Danny Dollars to make a good choice if Heup left. But I dont think Heup makes a move without Danny.
USF isn’t anyone’s destination job. Any coach with a fire burning within him wants to coach at the highest level and try to win a national title. Golesh will take a Power 4 job at some point, it’s just a matter of which one.

I’ve never understood this risk-averse mindset. Afraid to pull the trigger and see what’s possible with fresh leadership, and instead standing pat because things might not work out in the future.

Great leaders take calculated risks. Sometimes they strike gold, sometimes they don’t, but I wouldn’t want anyone leading my program who cowered away from making tough decisions. Nothing is 100% guaranteed.

When your doc comes in and says, "I'm not risk aversive so I'm going to try this unproven treatment approach despite having available treatments which have a track record of working pretty well because this unproven treatment may actually be better......"

We're going to roll your kid to the OR. Just sign this.

Apples and oranges, my friend. Running a multi-million dollar sports program isn’t life or death.

No, it isn't, but risk management equations remain weighted toward the surer thing.

You may play fast and loose as you wish with your money but corporations, successful ones anyway, tend to use analytics well, not completely, but very well.

What is funny to me is that mediocre coaches are running away with tons of money.

CJH has maturing to do as a HC. If he took his offense and one or two star players to LSU, they’d run him off after 3 years, maybe less.
Heupel has never signed a one or two star player at Tennessee. He does currently have four recruits who are a 5 star on at least on service this recruiting class

I’m @ lunch listening to 104.5 zone as they interview Chris Phillips and the LSU job. He said there are rumors that Heup is on the LSU list and LSU is on Heup’s short list of other college jobs.

He then stated TN fans don’t give Heup the credit he deserves, instead complaining about not making playoffs. And, TN is not a perennial playoff team yet a 3-4 loss team.

When asked he said TN is not a top six destination for head coaches. He said we would fall in top half. He also said he wouldn’t include Florida and unsure about aTm.

Surely Heup won’t get an offer but he was correct about Napier and Kelley, too, losing his job and the fact LSU trying to find just cause. He said Heup would listen to LSU.

I don’t see it but I am blinded by orange glasses- esp. when he said LSU is top six job - not TN.

Ohio state, Bama, UGA, LSU, Texas, USC, Oregon, and I think Notre Dame were his top coaching destinations.

Thoughts?

Edit- I listened to the interview again. Phillips said he’s heard Heup would entertain leaving TN and definitely listen to LSU. Plus, LSU admin is confident Heup would leave TN for LSU if offered the job. The outside noise by the minority of our fan base is annoying as apparently Heup hears the 💩. Could you imagine him leaving for LSU and taking Brandon Faizon w/ him?

LSU is easily one of the best jobs in the country.

The best per capita in state talent and no real instate competition for them

Golesh if Heupel exits. He’s probably going to go 9-3 at USF at season’s end. His losses aren’t to bad teams. I hope we finish 9-3 and Heupel stays. Needs to change up some things, people, strategies, but would prefer he remain here.

Edit: Check that, Kiffin is my first call, then Golesh.

In the mix, after the GA loss and TX being out of the playoffs, the rumor that Sark might leave TX for the NFL or otherwise has broken through the surface again also.

TX being in this mix would be the kind of off season carousel that adds an entire wing on Jimmy Sexton's mansion.

It's always the ones who have never led or managed anything that are the loudest with BS like that

Kiffin will probably end up in Nashville with the Titans.

I have a good friend who I went to UTK with. His dad is a fairly significant booster. Nowhere near the top, but still quite connected. Anyways, I talked to my buddy this morning & he said his Dad has told him if LSU offers Heupel, he’s gone. There’s apparently been a decent amount of communication btw Chris Smith(Heup’s Agent), & LSU brass.

Don’t shoot the messenger, just passing on what I was told. It could definitely be complete BS..

I will be honest the NIL kind of negates the area talent challenge. There is zero chance that the not having an actual AD does not hurt LSU in this coaching hunt. On top of that they are trying to not pay BK his buyout. To me this LSU hire is a disaster as it sits. At least UT had some type of reasoning they could use for Pruitt situation. LSU has nothing other than they wanna get out of it.
