Hershel the greatest RB?

Walker for sure. Bo was athletic but lacked heart, took himself out of the game when we were knocking the crap out of him in our upset win. Webb was great but not as big as Walker.

let me also say, which is why i think vince dooley is one of the most overrated coaches of all time, georgia didn't bother to fool anyone for the time herschel was in school.

the dude had 994 carries for georgia in 3 years.

as a comparison, bo jackson had 650 in 4 years at auburn.

there was no coaching or intellectual brilliance on the georgia sidelines in those years. it was herschel left, herschel right, herschel up the middle. if herschel gets tired, hand the ball to herschel.

I always knew the legend of Hershel Walker. Knew he was good.
But, my goodness, he was by far the best Running back of all time..in college anyways.
just saw the special they ran about him on ESPN.

Wish Tennessee could get an impact running back like that.
Without Walker, Georgia was nothing.

Jamal Lewis was close before he got hurt.
and if Fulmer would have played him earlier to start his career.
Henry, we was a tough guy to tackle and is the career leader in yards I believe, but he didn't change the game like Walker did.

Where is that great back at that can do that for UT?

Has there been any other backs, that for 3 years, carried their team to such great heights as Walker.
Not just stats, but also wins. They won or competed for national championships for 3 straight years..amazing.

I know we all remember the Walker vs. Bates moment.
I'm sure someone can bring that video up..:eek:lol:

GO BIG ORANGE!!!
Walker was ahead of his time; if he played today his stats would not be nearly as off the charts. Besides Bush, Kijana Carter was a very good back in college, but like Bush wasn't so great in the pros.

I really like Charlie Garner, but he didn't have the brute force of Jamal. I know Webb was good, but before Lewis got hurt I feel he was in another league.

herschel is the only player i can think of who was arguably the best player in college football the moment he stepped on campus as a freshman.

i don't know if that can be said of any other player.

he legitimately could have won the heisman all 3 of his years at georgia.

Hate to agree with you, but I agree with you.

I'll never forget walking into a small c-store when I was a young boy, and my dad asked the clerk..."how we doin in the game?" the clerk replied,"we had'em...we had'em by 15, then some kid named Hershel Walker came out of nowhere and scored 16 all by himself. He ran over Bill Bates at the goal line. We had'em!"

I'll never forget it.

Have you looked up Walker on Wikipedia?

"Walker played running back for the University of Georgia, where he was a 3-time All-American and winner of the 1982 Heisman Trophy and Maxwell Award. He is the only player in NCAA history to finish in the top 3 in Heisman voting every season he played football. He is also the only player in the NCAA to be in the top 10 in rushing yards and have only played 3 years. During his freshman season in 1980, Walker set the NCAA freshman rushing record and finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting. Also, Walker was the first true freshmen to become a first-team All-American, a feat that has only been done by two other players in history Adrian Peterson and Sammy Watkins."

This stuff is crazy...

I grew up in Atlanta as a Georgia Tech fan and later married into a Tennessee family. I saw Chuck Webb and alot of guys mentioned here in live games. They were great but I have never seen anything like Hershel Walker. Before he had that shoulder injury, he was crazy. Afterwards, he still ran very hard. He was the best I have ever or will ever see taking into account his days in college.

Walker was the best ever at the college level. After that...who cares.

As for ut, Webb was the best. Lewis ran hard when he wanted to. He took lots of plays off and was afraid of getting hurt later in his career at ut. Jamal could have been much better than he was. In the nfl, they make you earn the money and so he could not take plays off. Better in the nfl than at it imo.

Agree with Walker best in SEC and Webb best at UT. There was an excitement and anticipation that is hard to describe every time you saw Herschel get the ball. Unlike any player I remember. Not even Bo IMO.

Webb is such a tragedy. He was unstoppable, also. I believe he would have won the Heisman if he hadn't gotten hurt. He was that dominant. I don't believe he was a pre-season candidate for the Heisman, but he would have worked his way into contention. The most dominant RB ever at UT including Jamal. JMO.

There was that anticipation with Bush too.. U knew he could break one for a td anytime.. Diff type of back, but best I've seen..

Oh, and sickest highschool highlight tape ever!

Herschel Walker- best college running back ever

Jim Brown- best NFL running back ever, only back to average 100+ yds a game in his career, pure power back and didn't believe in running out of bounds ever

Barry Sanders- most entertaining running back ever, he could break ankles with his moves, he made defenses look like circus clowns

I wish Barry hadn't retired so early. He would've smashed Payton's records and probably would hold every rushing record for many years to come.

to me that is the most intersting thing that i have ever heard.talking about the 994 yards in 3 years and the 650 in 4 years.now days,if a runner doesn't break a 1000 yards a year they are a bust.:good!:well, i see i didn't read the post very good.he was talking about carries instead of yards.my bad.mods delet this post.
