In honor of the Third Saturday in October.. I would like to thank Coach Phil Fulmer for all he did here and continues to do for the program. He won 7 in a row against Bama and had an overall 11-5 record vs Bama in his time here. Not many people in sec history has ever had Bamas number and owned them like he did. He's a true VFL and did everything in the world for our program and did it with class. I'm sure I speak for plenty of vol fans but thanks for the memories Phil. You were awesome and a true legend.

Well put. I think his record against Bama may surprise some :) If he could have only owned FL like he did Bama :cray:

IMO - The George Bush of Tennessee football. He was in charge when things were great and when they started to slide, may have been a little too loyal to his assistants, and the longer time goes on the more he is appreciated for what he did....keeping us relevant.

Phil did amazing things for Tennessee and since I was born in '87, to me he was synonymous with UT football growing up. Sadly, he is partially at fault for where we are today. I don't think that overshadows his accomplishments in the least and his love for the university was, is and always will be unquestionable. Cheer's to coach Fulmer

And Derek Dooley was the Barack Hussein Obama/Barry Sotero of Teennessee football.

I don't disagree that things had begun to slide in Phil's last year or two. But the slide did not have to be a 5 years debacle. Lane Kiffin and Derek Dooley, with a helping hand from Mike Hamilton are responsible for it being an extended time period.

That's the reason why Kiffin's one year and Dooley's first year were the best of the last 6.

I remember watching the 95 game, when Peyton hit Joey Kent for a TD on the first play of the game. Peyton said it was one of his favorite plays to run. If I remember right, the play was called 360 Bass. Then watching Peyton stroll in to the end zone for a TD, is by far one of the best plays ever in this rivalry.

AMEN. I have never heard a more appropriate analogy. :hi: Hats off to you.

I was sitting in the end zone that Joey ran into....right in the middle of a whole section of crimson.

My favorite away game I've ever been too.

Hard to be surprised at his record against Bama if you saw the games. Phil's numbers should speak for themselves.
No one owned Spurrier @ Florida. Or Urban Meyer for that matter. Fulmer still had a hall of fame career and our best seasons since Neyland. One would think our fans would treat him better when you consider all the accomplishments.
