Virginia Tech beat Boston College 49-0 this past Saturday, and Boston College beat UMass 26-7 a week ago. Why is this interesting? Because Florida beat UMass by an almost identical score. So the Vols handily beat a team that curbstomped BC (who beat UMass by the same margin as Florida). What am I saying? The Vols can (and should) win this game. The Vols may not be very good right now, but we are definitely good enough to beat Florida. #Endthestreak.

I agree OP, we should.

But we will play up to a bigger opponent and I'm sure they will to. It will be close. Hope it's in our favor.

It's all about matchups each week. I am most worried about our defense stopping their run. The offense should be able to score some.

Transitive properties of football are always shaky. I hope you are right OP.

I think VT trouncing BC does make your Bristol win more impressive. But you gotta be careful with this; what about App State for example, Ohio losing to Texas State, etc. You just can't trust the common opponent thing, it never works, either way. Plus, you have things like weather/injuries/penalties that may factor in. UT handles Ohio way more dominantly if not for the injuries and penalties, in my opinion. Similarly, UF would have added another 2-3 TD's versus UMass if not for the first half monsoon and that game also had a ton of penalties.

It's tempting I know, but you just don't learn much from this.

From what I heard, Florida actually played better WHILE it was raining against UMass.

I agree with you, though. I think Tennessee trounces Ohio and App State if not for turnovers and drive extending penalties that occurred in both of those games on the initial drives after we had held them to fourth down. It's like it instantly deflated the team after making a big stop and flipped field position and allowed both teams to score. If this happens for the third time against Florida then we are in big trouble.

So in 2014
Virginia Tech Beat Ohio State
ECU Beat Virginia Tech
South Carolina Beat ECU
Tennessee Beat South Carolina

Boom national champs baby!

Also by your theory Miami would beat the dog piss out of UT, which I don't buy for one minute

Honestly I don't buy into football math much. I mean the 2013 Florida team beat us and a ranked Arkansas team but went on to lose to Georgia Southern.

Sadly, there are some on here that think this way.

If you were a Bama fan this would be grounds to claim another championship

OP sorry to break it to you but the transitive property doesnt work in football.

I know looking at scores from other games isn't always an accurate predictor of how a game will go, but in this case it does tell me that we have a good a chance to beat Florida. If the Vols can play as good as they did after the first qtr in the battle of Bristol the Vols will win.

Ya their offense with a worse line than ours and a guy that couldn't cut it at Purdue "should be able to score some"

So, if we have a math contest rather than a football game, the odds are in our favor? Got it!

This is very true. You don't really learn anything from comparisons like this

Not only that, but gators suck!

Transitive property is a vague ballpark at best, not an absolute. If the Vols play hard and play smart they can win.
