Here's a man who looks very happy

I will admit I love Butch Jones but so far he hasn't achieved anything that Dooley didn't achieve which is a 5-7 record. When CBJ starts winning 9 and 10 games a season, then we can say he is a home run hire.

He is better recruiter than Dooley ever thought about being. And the record part is a fact and the 9/10 wins a season is accurate, IMO.

To summarize: TN fans need to be satisfied and appreciate mediocrity.

Or maybe learn from their past mistakes? Personally, I would've really liked to see Cuonzo get a few more years. Getting to the sweet 16 this year would've poised well for recruiting. He had generated a tough defensive mindset in the team. He was building us like Izzo has built MichSt. We just didn't give him near enough time. Gaining an athletic 7 foot defender this year, along with Richardson, who looked poised to takeover the leadership role for next year, plus Hubbs, and some experienced talent around all of them? I thought we looked good going into next year.

Imagine how good we could've been with another elite scorer (Hubbs) this year. And we made it to the S16. We ran a good coach out of town and were gonna regret it more than likely.

Be careful what you wish for. You might just end up not liking it. I recall about 50% of the fan base wanted to get rid of Phil Fulmer too. How has that worked out so far???

Easy, Zo is not Phil. He is merely a hired gun not a guy who grew up a Vol and never left. Thank you coach for your service but I will not miss your brand of basketball. I personally was bored to tears. Good luck and next!

He achieved a top 6 recruiting class, Dooley never did that.

Next year was going to be a train wreck. Cuonzo knew it. By all accounts he was good with the proposed contract with the exception of the buyout. He knew with the impending results of next year with the $1mil buyout he wouldn't survive. He jumped ship before it sank. Smart move by him.

And I'm a man thats very happy he is gone.

I could not have said it any more precisely. Sorry the door could not have hit him in the *ss on the way out and let him take all of his sorry *ss players with him. He should have never been given the chance at Tennessee. We are fans that expect the best from Tennessee and when someone can't cut the mustard he needs to be showed the door. Criticize me if you wish. Sport is about completion and if you can not compete you need to get out of the way for someone who can. I think CCM saw the hand writing on the wall and new it was not going to get any easier for him here.

This program next year in no way, shape or form resembled Izzo's going into year 4 at Michigan State. That team went 33-5 and had something like 4 future NBA players on it and multiple McDonalds AAs.

Also, Zo left, with a 500k raise on the table. He wasn't ran off. He took off while the getting was good. 3 wins and he cashed in on them.

"Vols fans, no doubt, will say that Cal will fail and good riddance and thatÂ’s fine. Hell hath no fury like a fan base scorned.

And thatÂ’s OK, too.

But remove the anger and what you see is a coach who was far from an epic failure. He went 63-41 in his three seasons, finishing in the top five of the SEC in each season.

This despite the stain and strain of NCAA sanctions.

In a lot of places that would merit a raise, a contract extension and a heap of praise.

At Tennessee, it got Martin a heap of nothing. Impatient fans and lukewarm administrators never really gave Martin a chance -- Indiana fans, with a bit more basketball dog in the fight, gave Tom Crean a longer leash.

And now the Vols got what they stopped wanting and exactly what they deserved. "

With Cuonzo Martin exit, Tennessee Vols get what they deserve - ESPN

Hopefully we get what we deserve. A good coach.

The only good basketball coach we ran out of town was Bruce Pearl.

I said he was building a team like Izzo does, tough an defensive minded, the process will take longer here because we're not a basketball school. Cuonzo needed the wins he got this year to help bring in bigger recruits.

It's whatever though, discount everything all the analysts have said about us "getting what we deserve" here. The fanbase ran Cuonzo off whether you admit it or not. I hope we make it to the Sweet 16 again once in the next 5 years.

I completely discount people saying we're "getting what we deserve" and meaning it in a negative way. I see it as getting what we deserve in a positive way. A coach who has a clue and won't run off when he's tanked the program.

Izzo's system works because he's a great recruiter. He signed McDonalds AAs/future NBA players early and often, just like Donovan.
