name a coach at a historically great school like UT who was ultimately was considered successful and that did not have it rolling by year 3?

Saban at LSU
Saban at Bama
Carroll at USC
Stoops at Oklahoma
Holtz at Notre Dame
Brown at Texas

this is a joke to say, "we need more time"...

I have a challenge for everyone on here:

Can anyone kick an extra point? We could use you on the team, if so...

We are improving. Fire Dooley now and you can put your money on UT not recovering for a VERY long time. The team gave up on the coaches when the pressure got really turned up. Not the other way around.

Do you know how bad South Carolina was when Spurrier took over? The fact that he's got South Carolina in the top 10 is magnificent in and of itself.

Why'd you quote me??!! I was saying it took The Ol Ball Coach 7 years to build that program...

Learn the internets...K?

Completely disagree. Motivation and chemistry are two of the few things that the coaches actually can manipulate one way or the other. Right now, the teams that are winning in the SEC are doing it by more or less rolling out the ball to elite athletes who play simplified, old fashioned football. The Vols need better players and it's going to take a different group of coaches to get those players in the door.

The team doesn't give up when the coaches have a sack.

In an era when solid coaches make it VERY difficult to outrecruit UGA Bama Fla LSU my answer would be to try to make the whole greater than the sum of the parts with a guy (1) we can get and that is (2) a proven winner at every level
