Here is the problem....

It doesnt matter that we didnt cover the spread. Thats only relevant to gambling and Butch bashers. The only thing that matters is a win. You can cherrypick any stat, play or decision you want to bolster your point but its moot. A win trumps all of that.

I dont have the answer as to what truly happened and neither does anyone else. Basically its a speculation that gives the rickybobbys of VN fuel for their Butch bashing.

Do we have a perfect coaching staff? Absolutely not, but no team does. Do I think the game could have been played better? Yes. So answer these questions for me. Can the coaches make WR catch the ball when it hits them in the hands? Can the coaches do anything to prevent a player from fumbling? If so, then what? Winning cures everything, except here at Tennessee.

You can continue to look at things your way. I am just going to be happy and enjoy the win.

Not really the point as to whether or not a fan should enjoy the win. That's like saying 'will Florida feel bad about playing in the SEC championship because we missed a field goal?' Or 'will Alabama feel bad because we fumbled instead of scoring on our last drive?' Of course not. They and we will enjoy our win and reap the benefits of it.

The point is not about this way too close win, but concern about game management and future contests. Why do we come out like gangbusters and bog down in the middle of the game on offense and then cave altogether later in the game on defense?

And, most importantly, how does that affect the rest of this year and next?

It seems to be a problem that The VOLUNTEERS Won this game . You guys will have to deal with it . The VOLS WON .

This is definitely a win the negavols will salivate over. Its actually kind of sad really, this is why we can't have nice things! I'm all for being critical, for example play calling continues to have some kinks and issues (the last few drives were not only poorly executed and uninspired), but I felt like ball security was an issue tonight, that let USCjr back into the game (Dobbs should of had a few more picks- which makes a play caller weary), not to mention dropped passes! Also the field seemed to only effect our guys, we were slipping all over the place...in other words there were many variables as to why it almost got away from us. But the key is almost! We won be happy, enjoy the win. After watching many other teams struggle and some lose this week just be happy for the win!

oh forgot that Randolph going out hurt, and more injuries on the line has effected consistency...variables.

People don't really remember just how bad the SEC was in the 90s. Us and Florida were really good but pretty much everyone else wasn't after Bama got in trouble.

We had our down years at the worst time when the league suddenly got a huge influx of cash and most of the schools got their **** together and started caring enough about football.

This is a false narrative. Look at the top 25 polls through the 90's and get back to me. We were elite and the conference was really good.

Nothing that happened in this game will affect the rest of the season or next year. So nitpick all you want. Like I said, I am just going to enjoy the win and not worry about anything else.

But there is a disturbing pattern brewing. I am not a coach, but give me millions and two top five recruiting classes and, well you need to make things happen. Point, period, blank.
Look at this article How Tennessee became the world's greatest team at blowing big leads - SBNation.com
This coaching staff is mediocre. We just want to believe it isn't true.

With the garbage that Butch inherited from Dooley and the # of players out with injury( I believe the last count is 17 players) I think if we win out and go 8-4 that's quite an accomplishment. Yeah, it would have been nice to close out the games against OU, FL and ArK and be looking at 11-1, however, considering how things have played out ( again all the injuries) I think Butch has done the best job anybody could do.

There is no problem. People like to start **** on volnation, because they are bored, and it's the internet.

I don't claim to be a genius or anything, but would you mind telling me what 'transparetive' means? I can't find it in the dictionary. Perspective, I've got.

I am more concerned about the 5 likes that the poster received. I think it is a blend of transparent and something. Maybe transparency? Transperative is a word apparently although seldom used and doesn't seem to be applicable here so I don't think this was a spelling mistake.

And one coach is an interim with nothing to lose and the other is a win away from being bowl eligible. We had three turn overs, guess that was on Butch, I'm guessing Malones dropped TD pass was on Butch too, according to you. We did just enough to win. Who give a damn flying f*** what the final score was?

Spot on!

ole beaver teeth had nothing to lose....you can call plays a little differently when you are desperate.

yeah, I was at the game yesterday and had the most negative SOB sitting behind me. kept saying, "this is deja vu all over again". .."we're gonna blow it and lose"....and it was the 2nd quarter. No team is ever going to lay down, no matter who their playing. Enjoy the ride, we're on our way and I'm going to laugh at all the negavols when we do. Go Vols

People in the SEC are use to having about 4 maybe 5 teams that are so much better than the rest it turns into a blowout every time your team plays the others. This is not the case in the modern era. It's all about match ups, and there are a plethora of variables.(how does your ol matchup vs their dl, vice versa, how does your teams wrs match up vs their secondary, vice versa) . Count your blessings when your team wins, and hope your team rebounds from a loss. That is where we are at. That can only be the explanation of fla struggling vs Vandy, ut vs USC, Bama getting lucky vs ut, etc. I think fans should just enjoy the ride and hope the football gods are on your side. UT could easily be undefeated, or could easily be worse. Bama could have three losses or more. It's just the nature of the beast.

Agreed. Perfect example is Iowa. Remember that team freaking destroyed in the bowl is 9-0. Ifor they played our schedule they would have 5 losses at least.

Injuries and depth issues?

The sec was very predictable for a number of years. You could go right down the slate of games and determine the winner before the game was played. For the most part the parity is high right now and the western half of the conference has become so good that it almost becomes a case of well, somebody had to lose because we all can't win.

However, Tennessee footbLl has remained very predictable since 2010 for sure but some games have remained predictable for even longer. Even when the laws of physics and statistics say that Tennessee should have beaten Bama or Florida at least once, the vols continue to defy the laws of nature and God.

Outside of the Georgia game and (I guess the south carolina game two years ago) you cant find anothrr instance of Tennessee winning a game they were not supposed to win.
