Here is some real truth

Aww, the tired ol’ “We won’t be able to attract a proven head coach” routine. Guess what? We haven’t been able to attract a proven HC in the last three coaching searches. How is hanging on to our current no name, in-over-his head HC going to change that? But the “Be Patient” crowd need not worry. Finances aren’t going to let Pruitt go anywhere this year, and he probably won’t be fired after next either. The University can go ahead and lift attendance restrictions for Neyland because it’s probably not going to matter

Year 3 and he is either not recruited a QB capable of starting or continues to play a worse player at the most important position for some unfathomable reason.

Disagree... but when you have an 18 y/o freshman 5 star that is in contact tracing the whole month of august, that’s just not something you can control and HB is just not ready.

So we would be winning championships right now if we didnt fire Butch??..get a clue. The firing timeline is not the problem. It's the hiring. A good coach would come here for the same reason they go anywhere...the money. Bad coaches get fired here for the same reason they get fired anywhere....the money. When fans and boosters stop spending or threaten to stop spending, coaches get fired. The reason this merry go round never stops is because fans keep settling for mediocrity.
You had me until the last sentence. It is not the fans that settle for mediocrity. It is the administration that is not always looking for the best possible hire and have a $$ deal ready to go when that person looks available. We screwed that up going all the way back to not hiring Majors when he made a winner out of Iowa State, then really whiffed by not having a clue on who to replace Fulmer. then repeated those errors with every hire since. The admin added to their incompetence by giving away extensions to demonstrate “commitment” when it was obvious the coach was struggling. Man I wish I’d get a huge raise when looked like I might get fired if I was screwing up! A program must always have a list of replacements in your back pocket -even the Bamas, OSUs, and Clemsons need to. Nebraska, ND, and FSU are all guilty of the same as us.

Hate to say it but there are QBs being forced into playing as freshman..if HB is not ready maybe there is a bigger problem....a 5* blue chip should be able to step in.....Bryce Young could...

You hit it on the head. I think most of the younger fans need to look at our hiring past history all the way back to Dickey. In the late 50's and early 60's we were not that great then we hired him a young guy that was an assistant at Arkansas. Battle was 29 when he was hired and if you look at Majors his first 5 or six years were nothing special. Fulmer was an assistant that stepped up when Majors was "removed" and the rest is common knowledge. Other than Majors we have NEVER hired a big time, big name coach other than Kiffin who was in the NFL and left in the dark of night.

That is really what this whole thread is about. We tend to look for the next up and comer while the fan base wants the sure thing and in football the sure thing is never guaranteed, Jimbo Fisher, Chip Kelly, Scott Frost and the list goes on and on. I do not know the answer and have never said I did but doing what we have been doing is going to get us what we have been getting.

It was is own choice to attend campus parties and put himself in contact tracing for august. 2020 isn’t a normal situation

I like CJP but what they tried to do against Alabama made absolutely no sense. Can we go back in time about 25 years and get out of trying to rush to the line and get a play off in 15 seconds. All that is being done is gassing your own defense. Just a terrible game plan plus Tennessee don't have the horses for that. I like CJP but his philosophy has to change in more areas than just QB or he will not make it.
