here is my thing...

We were beaten badly in the paint today: 30 -10.
At one time we were #1 in the country defending points in the paint. that was before we started extending the zone to contest the perimeter. Remember how people were screaming.
SC also beat us there but didn't play zone against us and we were able to build a big lead.
I thought Kennedy did a masterful job of changing his defenses. Every time there was a hint of us getting in rhythm and putting a run together he'd play a couple possessions of zone.
We'll see more zone from here on: Vandy, GA and Ole Miss all mix it in.

Most of those 30 points in the paint were wide open looks. They did a great job getting the ball to one post player and then they'd draw the defense, make an extra pass to their other post and get an uncontested dunk or layup. TN had no answer. Barely even attempted to get anything out of Owens and Carmichael. Could have used McGhee and Woodson today.

Why? Because we were playing well and they weren't getting all the uncontested shots they wanted...o wait. No, getting drubbed and sticking with the same plan that is getting you beat is bad coaching. It's like saying I'm going to drink all the soda I want. Then your metabolism drops, and you keep drinking the soda and expect to stay as skinny as you were.

Do YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THAT WE WOULD OF GOT BEATEN WORSE IN MAN? NOT TO MENTION GUYS WOULD OF BEEN FOULING OUT LEFT AND RIGHT? The main problem with this team is the lack of consistent scoring.

Those who choose to discredit the coaching style of CDT, need to submit their resumes so that Dave Hart can determine if a change needs to be made! I only hope that we have our coach for many seasons to come.

People complain about the team / certain players not showing up. See the a&m game thread for reference. If your team is slow in the zone defense, players are not showing effort, we are turning the ball over, and no one is generating shots, shouldn't adjustments be made? This is why just having one defensive set, and refusing to adjust your game plan bites you in the butt. Poor play and coaching this afternoon.

God this is so wrong in so many ways.

Losing Jabari and Woodson hurt a lot.

Seems we have someone who thinks he knows more than Coach Tyndall. No use arguing with him, he is soooo wise (in his own mind).

Tyndall's answer to not using man is that 'they do.'
Match up zone is a mixture of both.
That's why when we've started extending, our 'big' kids are getting burned. We just can't match up man to man.

Yep .....basically if a team is patient like A&M was then we will probably lose.....we win when teams get frustrated and hurried.

The only thing that can be said as FACT, is that what we were playing WAS NOT WORKING! You seem to be ok with the concept of , well if our game plan doesn't work lets throw in the towel.

do you not understand that was happening anyway?

Yes, because he is coaching the team EVERY decision he makes is correct. He can get out coached and mess up, but it's ok. He is the coach so he is never wrong...makes sense. No use in arguing that a coach messed up, he can never be wrong.

Sometimes you get beat by a better team. Today was one of those days. Stay tune there will be more afternoons like today. CDT is doing near miracle work with what he has.

In the post game CDT said that TN wasn't ready... didn't play with energy, etc. He then took all the blame for the way his team played. I love this guy. And he did make adjustments. If it wasn't for his coaching it could have easily been a 30 point loss. Instead the players never gave up (even when the fans did with 3 or 4 minutes to go) and nearly cut the lead to 3 in the last 90 seconds or so. Actually a goal tending could have been called that would have cut it to three.

We don't match up well with A&M. They had good game plan and exposed our weakness. I thought it was amazing we kept it that close!! Hats off to the guys for not giving up!! This one could of gotten ugly. GBO

A zone is designed to limit inside scoring and also to limit fouls to the bigs. Don't get me wrong this is Donnie Tyndalls system and that's not gonna change but if we try to match up man to man against a&m's bigs ours would've fouled out. I like our system as is & am convinced any other with our roster we might not have 8 wins.

I couldn't imagine Owens matching up with anybody on A&M. Richardson would probably have had to have been matched up with #23. Punter would struggled to stay on #21. Nobody could have guarded that transfer from SMU. TN just isn't a man-to-man team with this roster against teams like this one and Kentucky.

Agreed.the SEC requires a couple true bigs and for all their effort with Armani and Reece we are gonna struggle some nights. If we get to keep our coach next year should be improved with Mcgee back and other possible recruits(Kimani Jackson?)
