Good grief.... Now folks are piping up about Kiffin being dishonest about his 11 months 11 days quote.

If he wants the spotlight, he needs to be prepared for this type of .... I like him so far, but sometimes I scratch my head. If you going to spout 11month and 11 days 30 freaking times, make sure you got the facts right. Pretty simple stuff.

Kiffin has to own that one. Even if he had said they only had one incident and it was a shoplifting charge, nobody would have cared. Now he doesn't appear honest.

its all going to depend on whether or not Oliver was cited or arrested...Ive heard both.

If arrested, everyone knows about it, or easily can know about it. If just cited and released, then nobody knows until Oliver tells someone or someone else spills the beans.

Oliver (shoplifting) fourth Vols player facing charges in last two weeks - NCAA Football - CBSSports.com

This article says he was cited. If he was cited then he wasn't arrested. So it would be similar to getting a speeding ticket (although the consequences if found convincted weigh heavier).

Like the poster above said, if he didn't tell anyone then no one in the program would know about it.

And even if Kiffin did know about it, then he's still technically not lying because the player wasn't arrested, thus he could get a lawyer and be proven innocent in court.

Citation is a arrest without physically taking them to jail. He will still have to report, get fingerprinted, etc

Either way, who cares? The kid got caught stealing. End of story

Don't be bringing facts into this. Let the people piss and moan about ANY little thing possible.

well...he did lie. 5 days off and he knew about oliver...sheez.

shhhhhhhhh.... facts don't go over well here if they in any way reflect negatively on the program or CLK.

FTR, I don't care that he lied. But, it was a lie, and to say otherwise is nonsense.

umm wait i'm mean... Shut up, you're not a UT fan, go find another team to follow you negavol! (that was close, almost lost my #1 fan status....)

truth is truth. it doesn't mean i don't like CLK...i love the guy...but truth is a higher calling than following a particular football team...and honor is greater than any college football team, so we can all scratch this off as a mistake and move on, but i would like him to be truthful next time.

If one believes that Oliver was kept from dressing over the incident, then the staff knew.

I doubt they view it as an arrest, but it is what it is. Play with the bull, get the horns.

I think what they mean by "arrest" is that they have the ability to take them to jail, or search them, but they let them go freely on ROR because they do not have a prior history and will show up to court.

You are wrong about "report & get fingerprinted" because he will not goto jail. He will have his day in court to plead his case and if he has a lawyer there's a good chance he will get out of it.

That's the part I think folks will harp on the most.... It really makes Kiffin look like Bill Clinton trying to defend himself....

I am torn on this because I really like Kiffin but I guess it is best to get it all out in the open now so it can die down. I still believe in and trust our coach.

Interestingly enough...you started the thread.

Yeah... Not sure what you're implying there, but I'm NOT saying that CLK's being dishonest or parsing words or however you want to slice it is OK by any stretch... The point is that the people who are just looking for an excuse to ridicule him even further just got one teed up for 'em by none other than Kiffin himself.....

if I were oliver I would probably be slightly thankful that I flew under the radar...but I would still get up in the morning, look at myself in the mirror as I am brushing my teeth, and think, "That was so stupid."

I hear you...I am simply saying that the thread would probably not have been started on here about his dishonesty if you wouldn't have started this one...so in other words you gave folks a forum. I am not ridiculing, just find it interesting.

Roger THAT! I also just can't fathom that Kiffin thought he wasn't going to get called on this.... Lying is never a good idea but considering the microscope CLK is under you'd think he'd be extra careful to avoid ANY appearance of dishonesty.... That'll hurt recruiting worse than nay actions his players could ever take.

"The court records were released Tuesday, a day after coach Lane Kiffin dismissed two of three players charged with attempted armed robbery. Kiffin says he will run a clean program."

If that means what I think it means, then that also states that this citation wasn't public knowledge until November 17th. If Oliver kept it from the program (which is possible to avoid punishment) then you cannot blame Kiffin.

Once again, why he is just now being suspended?

Ok...then why did he not allow Oliver to dress for Memphis? He knew.
