I don’t think he does anymore unless he moved back this summer. His son played HS ball in Columbus

Nico made the decision about money to come to Tennessee initially. Then his father shops him around in Dec trying to get more money. Then he hustles $400k more from Tennessee to stay. Then during spring, his father keeps shopping for more money, not for a better team. But it’s not about money? Gosh, every decision they’ve made was about money

I think Nick got shocked when the story leaked & thought Tennessee couldn’t walk away. When Nico skipped practice, Nick expected a new offer. But UT never called Nick. He had no “fall back” plan so Nico’s playing with a worst team & for $1.5m less after taxes.

Another media source coming out and saying he heard the Nico situation was more about adding more surrounding talent, not so much about the money.

It is water under the bridge at this point, and I think Aguilar will be an excellent fit in Heupel's offense, but a lot of us who thought there was validity to the narrative that the Nico situation was more about trying to bring in more talent and less about money were ridiculed. Everyone is so quick to try and paint the kid as greedy and in a negative light without knowing the real situation. Yet there were a few people out there reporting that it wasn't about money. Obviously everything backfired for Nico, but I think it was fair at the time to ask if enough was done in the transfer portal to upgrade the offense.

If it wasn’t about money, why did they ask for $1mil more from UT, settle for $400k more in December ? Or decline the Miami option of $1.5mil in December (before Miami took Beck). Miami is clearly better than UCLA.

This is just the Nico family spin to save face & media members like Cowherd & Klatt (anti SEC) ran with it.

We should have done more in the portal, absolutely. But the Nico situation was 100% a money grab. They were trying to get a bigger offer elsewhere during last season amidst a playoff run, long before we squandered the portal for this year.

Wasn't there a story a few months back that Nico (and possibly others) had considered sitting out the playoff game last year unless they got more $

For some reason, that has kind of stuck in my craw a bit

I think it’s fair that you can want to improve some things around you to have some help, but let’s not pretend that he didn’t had more than a few opportunities to make himself better. Those 19 tds probably should’ve or could’ve been around 26-28, but he missed a lot of throws and also threw some really bad picks. You combine an underwhelming stat line against quality opponents with the fact that you’re being shopped behind the coaches back to UGA, Miami and apparently Oregon you’re gonna get painted in a bad light . There are ways to handle to things like a man and a grown up, and unfortunately for Nico his father has shown him how to be neither.
