All of you singing the praises of Kirk Herbstreit have a short memory of how he and Corso campaigned against Peyton Manning all year long for the Heisman.. . .yeah it has been 10 years and I still remember.

Yeah, me, too. The only year a defensive player got the Heisman. That still erks me and College Game Day talking heads will never be off my hook for referring to UT fans as Trailer Park Trash because we were emotional bout that travesty. E.. me , Herb.

Calling the idiots who were acting like the Heisman voting was akin to the Kennedy Assassination "trailer park trash" was an insult to mobile home residents.

It would be a lot easier to swallow if the fools would have given the Heisman to Randy Moss. But to give it to a guy that didn't finish in the top 20 in the country in just about every statistical category is laughable.

I agree with you that anyone but the one who got the "midget doing the stiffarm" would have been better. I think the reason he received it over Peyton is this..

1. Michigan was loaded that year, and played on national TV every night it seemed, OSU, PSU, Mich St were all good teams then. And they seemd to always win.
2. Peyton just could'nt beat FL, whenever he had his shot on national TV to steal the spotlight he just couldnt do it, and the voters penalized him for it.
3. The voters were smoking a cotton candy jelly belly flavored Hash that year and were to wacked out to see the injustice in what they had did.

4. Petyon was, well, dull. He was the prohibitive favorite coming in, the prohibitive favorite all year, and just like the media does in politics, ESPN hyped Woodson to create a horse race and make things interesting. By the time they cast ballots, voters were bored with Manning, and meanwhile Woodson highlights were featured on Sportscenter every week. They went with the Next New Thing.

Ummm Herby wasn't anywhere near an ESPN studio in 1997. Hell, he might have still been playing for Ohio St.

As for Corso, who cares, and Fowler, even though he made his trailor park comment, which was out of line, he VOTED FOR PEYTON.

yes herby was on gameday in 1997.

Yesterday evening on Sports Zone 104.5 in Nashville, George Plaster said: " Something is wrong in Knoxville, I dont know what it is, and I dont know how it got there, but something is wrong and from what I am hearing from the insiders in Knoxville is that it will be fixed following this year. With that being said, CPF has hinted retirement following this season and that was the reason for Mike Hamilton's interview quote of he would like for CPF to write the end of the story"

I dont know how to take it, and I dont know how George Plaster has that much "insider pull"

Ive had the good fortune to interact with Plaster on several occasions when I was living in Nashville. He seems to be a very reliable guy. If what he says is true, that's the best news I've heard in a long, long time.

yeah, i think this is respect to what happened in 05. the SC game was the breaking point for the rest of that season, and i think many are looking at last week's game agasint Bama in the same light.

i think more people are convinced that SOS has the team that bounces back this weekend, not Phil Fulmer.

and if SC wins, i would expect that criticism to continue, and it would somewhat, i guess it'd depend on how they might lose, validate what Lex has been saying about him losing the team.

we'll see tomorrow night.

lex is not the only person saying that fulmer has lost the team. that's obvious at this point.

last year when we smoked Cal, Herby said "Tennessee is back!" it seemed to me that he was genuinely glad to see us back to our winning ways. i, too, thought PM should have won the Heisman, but i agree with VolfanMike, about not beating UF. if the Heisman is your goal, you better handle business every time the camera turns on.

Interesting, Because Herbstreit was nominated for an emmy in 1997, I did not know they gave those out to Football Players!

He actually started with ESPN in August of 1996

Doug Matthews and Al Dorsey both have quite a bit of insider pull, and are both regulars on The Sports Zone.

exactly, Doug Matthews has an ear on the inside. If Plaster's saying there's trouble on the Hill, he probably heard it from Doug.
