Did anybody else hear Kirk Herbstreit's comments on the Zone in Nashville this morning? He was asked to give his ruling on the progress or lack there of, and what his thoughts were.

I did and what he said is EXACTLY what those of us who are still in contact with reality believe...

(Paraphrasing)

- Said he thinks the mess Dooley inherited did not necessarily call for wins as much as stabilizing the program
- UT does not have the athletes nor the depth to compete with LSU or Bama
- Said the stars that they do have, the drop off from 1 to 2 is significant
- Didn't disparage Simms but said that Bray was a star
- UT is STILL a top 10 program with ELITE potential
- Believes Dooley WILL get it done based upon his charisma, coaching pedigree, ability to recruit, et al
- The way he is recruiting, UT should be back sooner rather than later.

In summary, his thoughts were that in no way can UT put any type of judgement on Wins/Loses this year or even next year. That realistic expectations would be looking for stablizing a program that was left bare post Fulmer then Kiffin. Major point was Depth and that we have the 1st string players to compete but when the Brays, Hunters, etc get nicked up, there is an extreme drop off that you dont see with the LSU/Bama's.

Went on to say that he 100% believes UT is still a Top 10 nationally program and that he whole heartly believes Dooley can get the program back there but its going to take 4-5 years before its realistic to expect.

Who really gives a frog's fat ass what Herbgeek says?

Most VN posters would like to hear what he said so that we may either:

1. Agree with him and tell him he's a genius if he compliments CDD; or

2. Tell him he's the idiot who escaped from the village if he casts aspersions at CDD.

Would love nothing more.

Also...

- Said Kiffin was a grade-A douche bag and he hopes his butt cheeks grow together.

I thought the last one was a little weird but hey, we're all entitled to our opinions.

Would like to hear Clay Travis and Herbstreit have a conversation about Dooley. I bet that CT is kissing Herbie's butt by the end of the conversation.

For the most part, I think Herbie does a pretty legit job. The reason he moved to Nashville was because OSU fans ran him out of Buckeye country for NOT being biased to them. IMO that shows he's a legit/unbiased analyst.

I will be the first to say that hes just an analyst and there is no such thing as an expert. So you obviously have to take it with a grain of salt.

Why? One knows what he's talking about and the other is Clay Travis...

Sounds about right to those of us still on the right side of sane.

2 of my boys are on the same teams as KH's. Good kids and he doesn't come across as anything but a normal dude in the settings I have spoken to him.

I LOVE IT! This is the exact same KH that the over whelming majority on this site despise on a regular basis. But let him say anything good about DD and all the sudden he's a great guy and understands the situation and really knows what he's talking about. Haha.

You goobs crack me up!!! Haha

Speaking of sanity, here's what still blows my mind:

Back in August, most level-headed fans and nearly all of the media and so-called experts called for a 6-6 or 7-5 season. There were a few koolaid-drinkers who called for 8, but I saw a lot of disclaimers about that being a stretch.

THREE of our best players are gone to injury or dismissal prior to the halfway point of the season, and with losses to UGA and UF, 6-6 now looks very probable.

I personally predicted a 6 or 7 win season; so, with that actually becoming reality, how can I call for the coach's head or be that upset at the outcome?

It's not like we were ranked top 10 in the preseason and then the wheels fell off.

I'll say this: If there had been higher expectations at the beginning of the season, I'd be able to stomach all of the "fire Dooley" and "Dooley sucks" cries from the negavols.

FOR THE LOVE OF PETE, the season is playing out EXACTLY like most everyone expected. It's reality. It is what it is. It ain't fun, but most reasonable, logical fans expected this outcome. Let's just enjoy the rest of the season, and GBO!!! :peace2:
