Herbstreit coming after us

Here is a question for Kirk if Sandusky and Schiano are in a bathroom and you had a teenage son would you let him go in alone knowing what happened.

Don't be surprised if the national media start walking this back. It could look really bad on them based on the facts and documented testimony of McQueary.

The local media made it clear this a.m. (kudos to wvlt) that fans had concerns about his potential knowledge of things under Sandusky.

Correct. When is it ever a bad idea to err on the side of caution when hiring possible child sex abuse enablers?

Kirk Herbstreit is a b*tch scared of the impending layoffs.

He's talking himself out of a job.

Herbstreit and the dying company he represents can't really afford to lose a whole fan base can they? I already barely watched college gameday this year but I'll make sure I avoid it from now on. We don't have to answer to him.

Sometimes life throws you squarely in a situation where being neutral is NOT an option. To not act IS an action.

You nailed it. This is a huge hire and we have abundant rights to be as careful as needed.

We may not have to answer him, BUTT a former jock named Booger is on ESPN as we speak ranting about how bad UT is for this. Come on, we cant ignore a guy named Booooger. :dance2:

It may surprise you that those who actually know Schiano, sees the UT fans unfairly associating him with crimes that he has no factual connections to.

We all were outraged by the unfairness when Peyton did not get the Heisman. We were upset when an ESPN reporter said that we were all crying in our trailers. Yet, some UT fans instantly claim that Schiano supports child rape.

Consider how this fan base looks by publicly and ignorantly accusing a man of horrendous acts and doing so with zero evidence.

This is what our fan base has come to and how UT is now perceived. Still, you wonder why the job is not attractive to the elite coaches.

Bunch of keyboard jockeys think they should run the athletic department now. You don't like the hire, don't go to the freakin' games.

A little bit selfish of a stance to take when you consider the impact on local businesses, no? Don’t worry, I planned on not going.

What's REALLY frosting Herbie's pumpkin this morning is the fanbase and OSU administration now has to deal with how the %$#k they have this guy on staff and now that they do, wth are they going to do about it?"

All that aside the guy sucks as a coach. What else you got?

I have always had a lot of respect for Kirk Herbstreit. He seems to be very level-headed in his approach to all things football, unlike a lot of other hyper-emotional talking heads on sports programs. I may be in the vast minority here, but I think he is correct in this assessment. Tennessee fans have messed up big time this weekend. The Schiano hire was under-the-radar for a reason (or several reasons, actually).

Toss the Sandusky BS out of the conversation because Schiano was probably not involved in that. Had he been, it would have come out in the investigation, but he was not implicated in anything. Vols fans are simply using it for leverage to sh*tcan the deal because it was an unfamiliar name on nobody's list.

His tenure at Rutgers was far more impressive than anyone around here seems capable of grasping. What he did there was phenomenal. Imagine what he could do with Tennessee's program and talent. Wow.

I don't like the way the hire went down, certainly. The Haslams have shown their *sses. Fulmer should have been involved. A search firm should have been used. But I also do not believe the fans should have this kind of social media veto power. This is a dangerous precedent. Most of the fans are too emotional and not practical enough in their analysis.

I guess abusing players and coaching his teams to try to injure people are A-OK, too, then.

SOME Vol fans are getting the particulars skewed, but the main focus of the backlash is what he MAY NOT have done. Which was to beat a monster’s ass! That monster was his mentor. Maybe he didn’t witness any behavior? Don’t care. Why START a new era with questions that the Tennessean will ask after they move onto campus for a 24/7/365 live feed. Just accept, huh?

He was “implicated”. That’s why he’s not our coach.

EXACTLY butchna, why even associate yourself with a coach that has a sniff of being implicated in a sex scandal, much less that it was football coaches raping little boys. You'd think he would have attempted to thwart that if he had a shred of dece3ncy or character.

I think you answered your first question. However, you should care about the facts of whether or not he was aware of anything illegal.

To answer your second question, I refer back to the facts. He has no connections to the illegal activity.

You’re beyond naive if you think that the unknown wouldn’t be spinned by the national media and opposing coaches. FACT! Why HIRE that?
