Allen hedging on UT offer: LSU’s recent courtship of 5-foot-11, 250-pound fullback Dominique Allen has the Henry County High standout re-thinking his spring commitment to Tennessee.

Allen said Tuesday that an unofficial recruiting visit in late July to Baton Rouge — where he had a lengthy meeting with LSU Coach Les Miles — has muddied his commitment to the Vols.

“I’m keeping my options open,” said Allen, who rushed for 1,616 yards and scored
31 touchdowns last season for Henry County.

“I liked it down there (at LSU). They told me they really need me and they really use the fullback.”

Well, do we really want someone who doesn't want to be here? He's the 4th rated FB and we would probably use him after a redshirt year, but if he wants to go somewhere else we don't need him.

"I'm still committed to Tennessee," Allen said. "Our family decided to make the trip and we had no expectations. You should always have a backup plan because you never know what might happen. They (Tennessee fans) have nothing to worry about."<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

I thought it was generally looked down upon as bad form to go after committed recruits?

I still think he remains committed. He's been a UT fan since childhood.

It is a dog eat dog world on the recruiting trail....

....and you don't count your chickens until they hatch on signing day. Wouldn' surprise me if 3 or 4 of the current commits wound up at another school.

Definitely this belongs in the recruiting forum but it does touch on an issue that I think we will have to deal with this year moreso than in the past, which is demommitments. With all these early commits (everywhere, not just UTK) I fully expect kids to be hopscotching hither and yon as the season progresses and the fortunes of programs and coaches rise or fall.

Well, we are talking about Les Miles here. Probably not one of the SEC's most liked coaches. However, I guess if you can get a recruit to change his mind and you can land him as a coach, more power to ya....

I really see no problem with Miles recruiting the kid. LSU has a lot to offer, and Miles is simply encouraging Allen to consider the possibility that LSU would be the best place for him to play college football...unless Allen tells him not to call, it's Miles' job to recruit the kids that he thinks will help LSU win championships.

If the kid is firm in his commitment to UT, he'll sign with the Vols...and the UT coaching staff has to do their part to continue recruiting Allen until he signs his LOI.

I be very surprised it we weren't active in the same process. There are a lot of people around here who are thinking that Bullard might decommit from ND and choose UT if they struggle again this year. I'm sure he might here from a coach thinking the same thing in a few months from now.

Yep, if the Clawfence enjoys a lot of success, it will be a big draw.

1) This is why there is a difference between the non-binding verbal commit and the LOI.

2) It happens all the time. Kids change their minds. No big deal.

Let me add 3) He sure does think a lot of himself. Glad to hear he says you guys, as UT fans, don't have anything to worry about. Sheezs.
