Hendon Hooker QB Transfer from VT

Hendon Hooker had 217 yards passing 3TDs and 150 yards rushing 1 Td...vs LIBERTY

As in Hugh Freeze's Liberty.

guys...this is not coincidence.

The timing of it.
Wouldn’t you think it would make more sense to have the kid wait to announce until after the coaching change if that’s what is happening in the next few days?

Hooker committed while Pruitt is still coach. While Pruitt may very well be fired (deservedly so), it doesn't make any sense for this guy to commit to Tennessee while Pruitt is coach based on the possibility that Pruitt might get fired and that Hugh Freeze might be his replacement. For what it's worth, I don't see Tennessee touching Hugh Freeze.

All that being said, I don't think Hooker is committing to Pruitt so much as he is to a high major school that has a wide open quarterback room. Bailey did nothing this season to establish himself as the guy going into 2021. Salter will be a true freshman who would probably benefit from redshirting. It doesn't look like Maurer is going to pan out here and could end up transferring before the start of the 2021 season anyways. The job would immediately be Hooker's to lose.

It’s so weird to me that we have this hiring freeze and our staff is by all accounts completely up in the air right now and we’re in the middle of a full blown investigation but we are getting this transfer right now. Just doesn’t make sense to me unless this kid knows more about how this is gonna play out.

He lost his job because Fuente is a ****ing idiot. I have cousins in the Roanoke area, big VT fans and I can assure you they absolutely wanted this kid to be the guy. I’ve texted them about it since I heard the news he was leaving, before I even knew he was going to UT, and while they are bummed he left they don’t blame him at all because Fuente was fumbling around with the QB room. As far as development, they don’t have any faith in Fuente developing Jack **** but you don’t necessarily have to “develop,” this kind of player. Look at his measurements; 6’4 220. You can’t develop the speed he has and you can’t coach that strength. He’s what is referred to as a freak athlete. And you can’t knock him for playing in the ACC this year. . . Did you see the defenses in the SEC? Dude would have ran all over Florida’s defense I’ll tell you that. And to those knocking him for a bad Clemson game, well that happens to pretty much every QB against Clemson over the last 3-5 years minus like 3 so. . . I can assure that some very hardcore VT fans are bummed he is leaving and think UT got a really solid player.
Fuente sounds like a coach we know

I've just never heard of any player committing to a school based on who the coach might be, especially when said school still has a coach. That would be an... interesting way of picking a school to say the least.

My guess is that this kid doesn't really care about who the coach is. He sees a weak quarterback room and sees an easy path to playing time.

Definitely possible. My conspiracy theory is that the posters here that heard from someone involved with the law team etc. that something is going down later this week are correct and Freeze has already been hired unofficially and is bringing Hooker and the kid probably just got a little antsy and couldn’t wait to post to social media. It doesn’t really matter but I do think in this scenario they would prefer not to have him announce until the coaching change is official.

Fair point.
What if I told you that coaches and people in the world of recruiting are the most scheming, back stabling people you will ever meet?
What if I told you a guy that was a part of recruiting network that directly reports to an association owned by a UT...¨sympathizer¨ went to go see a certian Texas SR QB and made assurances to him that UT will take care of him , because they need him. And the ¨future¨ is dependent on him?
So the kid reaffirms he is committed and enrolls early despite turmoil. Nothing illegal about that.

Tell me Hugh Freeze wouldnt recruit Kaden Salter. (Chad Kelly, Malik Willis, Ryan Aplin ) Aplin had 4000 yards total offense in 2011 for Freeze with 500 of it rushing.

Hey man...I know nothing factual. Tea leaves or what not..
But I know how people play in the shadows. Especially in the world of recruiting.

I found this transfer strange. Hooker was playing/starting at VT, then transfers to a place where the coach might still get fired. If the coach stays, he's probably starting Bailey and not a transfer. If the coach is gone, you don't know who you will be playing for. I did watch the Liberty/VT replay and he does remind of Dobbs, lanky yet somehow shifty. I also find it odd that he balled out against Freeze's Liberty team. It's all probably coincidence, but what if it's not :).
