Tennessee's QB 'future is bright' with JT Shrout

A few lines from the article....

Tyson Helton likes his quarterback group.

He likes the development he’s seen from Jarrett Guarantano since he won the starting job. He likes the veteran backup, Stanford graduate-transfer Keller Chryst, and the leadership he brings to the group.

He likes freshman JT Shrout, too, and the future he brings to the position.

“As a young kid, still learning the offense, trying to pick things up, he's just a pure passer,” Helton, the first-year Tennessee offensive coordinator, told the Knoxville Quarterback Club on Monday, speaking to the group at Calhoun’s on the River. “Tremendous thrower, has great instincts, has great anticipation.”

looks like McBride is not in the equation. We already have tabbed a recruit for the 2019 q.b. position. McBride is getting passed up and will likely transfer. Just a logical guess.

Glad to see there is some good competition at the QB position, now and in the near future.

I hope the guy lands somewhere that he has an opportunity to play. He seems like a tough competitor and good representative of the university.

a RS qb with physical talent, and time to develop...with what you would think will be a much better roster in the coming years.

if only the future was now.

Was thinking the same thing. "Put me in coach, Im ready to play. Today"

Does anyone think Shrout might get any game time with the 4 game redshirt rule? Hes probably not ready yet and Chryst needs the game reps, but it would be cool to see him against Charlotte.

Shrout is a guy that has a tremendous amount of talent that just needs developing. He is a better runner than I expected QB looking good for several years to come. We need OL badly.

Or maybe he just sticks around and becomes the next Jim Bob Cooter

You can read between the lines when Pruitt/Helton's comments about Shrout. They really like him. It makes sense because he's the only QB on the roster than is "their guy" (he committed after Pruitt was hired). I think they see him as a guy who will likely have the job in 2020.
