Help Wanted: Most Exciting Games to Rewatch

Dobbs against Georgia a couple seasons ago (can’t recall the exact year). If nothing else the last couple of minutes in the 4th are worth rewatching. The announcers said it was over and Dobbs tossed the huge pass to take the lead, just for Georgia to toss one of their on with little time in the clock. Then Dobbs comes back and throws another one to win win no time left. Great game and example of Dobbs never quit attitude.

Having withdrawals so I’m planning a guys’ weekend of tailgating, grilling, bourbon drinks, and football games (YouTube reruns.) What are your top games to rewatch? Doesn’t have to be 1998 either if you can think of some exciting, hard-fought, knock down drag out football spectacles. Probably need at least 3 to make a day of it. Thanks!!!

1989 LSU game was a great game in Baton Rouge in the middle of a hot day, I was there.

1990 Cotton Bowl game against Arkansas was great with the great show by the best running back ever at Tennessee.

If interested in a great game, a loss though, try 1990 Notre Dame or if you prefer a win, try 1991 Notre dame.

2001 Florida game or 1982 Alabama game are both nail bitters with the Tennessee D hanging on.

I was at all these games..

Define exciting. Unexpected blow out win like the 85 Sugar Vols or a tight down to the wire like the 2001 FL game?

Im not sure about most exciting but 1997 Alabama game was my first time driving to Birmingham (never would have imagined living there at the time) and we were seated close to the band. When Peyton climbed the ladder and led the band in Rocky Top it became my most memorable moment. Right in the gumps house to boot! Kinda their house anyway. The fans stayed an extraordinary amount of time after that game too. I think most of the team came back out well after the majority of gump fans had left.

'96 Alabama

My first ever game in Neyland and it was ROCKIN! I was immediately bit by the bug. My wife was already a Tennessee die hard but she didn't have to drag me kicking and screaming into VOL fandom. I was blown away with the experience.

They were number 1 the first week of November. Three weeks later they were unranked. Ended up losing four of their last five, including the Sugar Bowl
Wow I didn’t remember it had gotten that bad for them. How in the world did they have that kind of slide and end up in the sugar bowl

Best game ever was Tenn coming back from 3 touchdowns down to tie LSU and go into multiple ot's where Tenn finally won. And that was in Tiger Stadium.

It's sickening that none of our big wins in school history is in high def.
JWilliams mentioned this earlier, that "none of our big wins is in high definition.

In response, I'd just copy this from another thread:

Shellacking Georgia, 45-19, in the Kiffin season was fun ... beating Spurrier's South Carolina squad while they were ranked #11 in 2013, and then beating them again in overtime in 2014, those games were a blast ..taking out #13 Northwestern in the Gator Bowl with Dobbs diving for the corner pylon in 2015 made us grin ... taking Virginia Tech down (WGWTFA!) in the largest football game in history, the Battle at Bristol, was a treat in 2016 ... that same year, beating both Florida and Georgia (the Dobb Nail Boot finish) was great (if only we'd beaten Vandy to secure the division title...sigh) ... those were some nice contests.

The sad truth is, none of those wins contributed to anything important (division, conference, national titles kind of important). True. But still they were big wins as individual contests, and very fun to watch.

So that's at least seven high definition games worth re-watching. :)

Wow I didn’t remember it had gotten that bad for them. How in the world did they have that kind of slide and end up in the sugar bowl

QB Shawn Moore, who was very good, broke his thumb. That's what precipitated their slide after losing a thriller to Georgia Tech. But the Sugar Bowl had already cut a deal with UVA when they were #1. Early private/unannounced bowl deals were not that uncommon then. The Sugar Bowl stood by it's deal and didn't dump the Cavs thus they wound up in New Orleans vs. the SEC champion Vols.

Shawn Moore came back for the Sugar Bowl. That really was a very good Virginia team with Terry Kirby, Herman Moore, etc. when S. Moore was healthy. He was still limited though and couldn't get much on the ball or get it downfield. It seems like at the end when they needed to throw deep they brought in Matt Blundin because of Moore's injury.

The Cavs were well coached and ready to play that night. They basically dominated the first 3 qtrs before the Big Orange finally got untracked. It was an exciting 4th Qtr. if not exactly a thrill a minute game. One thing I'll never forget. Kids were scalping tickets for $3 even $1 on the ramp going into the dome.

Now for the million dollar or at least buck and a quarter question- was Derrick Dooley on that UVA team and does anybody remember if he played in the game? I have absolutely no recollection if he was there or not.

Great info. I never knew about the private deal that was made, good stuff. But I was at that game as well with my dad I was just a teenager at that time, I think Dooley was on that team but can’t be for sure either
