Help Needed!

Continuing our circuit of the greatest places to see college football, my brother and I are rolling in on the Friday before the Alabama game this year...our first time in Tennessee. I would love to get some advice on the best way to experience a Vols home football game. Should we tailgate, and where? Is it more fun to pre-game at local bars, if there are any close to the stadium. We want to do this thing right, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Mods, what do you think about a sticky for visiting fans such as this one and the longhorn? "what to do in Knoxville on a game weekend" or something of the sort, just a thought. Cal did one for is last year and it was very helpful.

I'm not a local anymore either, but if I find some time today I'll start one. Some thoughts I have are various sections, like:
Hotels:

Traditions & must-sees:
Vol Navy
Vol Walk
Salute the Hill

Gameday/campus/student bars:

Downtown "young alumni" type bars:

Knoxville area nicer restaurants:

Campus area restaurants:

etc., etc.

like I said, if I get some time today I'll start it
