well...very good. man you could have a 2.0 and a 17 act score and get in...especially if you run a 4.3 in 40 and are about 6'3" 225.

call us shallow...but those are the numbers we like around here:)

as long as u got some extra-curricular activities, like sports, clubs, etc.. you shouldn't have a problem..

I almost had the exact numbers when applying to UT a couple years back ( I am currently in my sophomore year). I had a 3.95 GPA and had a 26 ACT, and I got in. I was also from the state of georgia like yourself. You should be fine. Did you participate in any extra curricular activities such as sports or clubs? Also, did you take the SAT?

I am applying to schools now also, and I have a 3.4, and a 23 ACT (11/12 on writing) and I'm applying to Journalism so that writing score looks good, but I'm not sure my family can pay for Out of State tuition at Tennessee.....:cray:

how much is illinois per/yr. Unless its absolutely your dream to go to UT, UI may be a more feasible option financially, UT is ~20k a year out of state

I have already applied.

I have a 3.3 GPA and a 24 ACT, at this point I am just praying every night. There is no other school that I want to get my education at than the University of Tennessee.

What do you guys think my chances are... I am very involved, play varsity basketball for a team that was just named to the AP preseason top 300 teams in the nation, and wrote a solid essay.

It will be a push for me to get into the UI, my Mom however is the Cheif Editor of the School Newspaper, so If I am accepted I would have a pretty good setup. UT for me would end up costing around 19k per year(without travelling expenses and fees), and UI would cost me 14k. But I'm now looking at Missouri for Journalism which is one of the nations best, and is around 16k for me after my literature scholarship. So I'm hard pressed right now trying to balance location, major, and cost. UT has been my dream since middle school so that is still very high on my list.

I know Illinois is only ACT scores. Your credentials and essay are taken high into consideration, as well as class rank. I'm not even sure you can submit SAT scores here....

In 1990 I got into U.T. with a 2.3 GPA and a 25 ACT, and they were happy to have me. I doubt they have raised the standards that much, you should have no problem. Back then it was easy to get served beer on the strip, even though I looked about 14. Much tougher now, which is probably a plus for you considering what the alcohol consumption did to my studies. Best of Luck. Forgot to mention, I was instate.

I don't think they put too much emphasis on extracurricular activities unless you are competing for a scholarship. I had only sports and student council as my extracirruclars and had no trouble getting in. Granted that was before the HOPE Scholarship (it started at the end of my academic career).

I'd suggest takin' that ACT once more. The super scoring is a god-send.

If you're looking to major in journalism, the first two applications you should complete are to Missouri and Syracuse.

I got into UT with around a 2.2 GPA, but I had a 30 ACT and 1320 SAT to balance that out. What can I say, I was lazy. I actually applied myself at around a 50% level for one single quarter in high school and got a 3.75.

I transfered in with a 2.1 GPA, 24 ACT and 1120 on the SAT and they didnt think twice about accepting me 4 years ago. Sounds like you'll be fine and if you do get accepted make it the best 5 years of your life like I have!! Ha ha
