Hey everyone! Long time lurker, first-time poster. I am the principal at a small Catholic school in Johnson City. Someone gave me a National Championship ball with a lot of signatures. We are putting it in our yearly school auction. I am having a hard time finding its worth. Help please!

Do you have a note of authenticity? If so it could be worth a pretty penny. Just a quick ebay search found what appears to be a 1997 team ball with Peyton's signature going for $3500. Rare Tennessee Volunteers Peyton Manning Autographed Football TEAM Signed $$$$$$ | eBay. I am not going to lie, that seems a bit steep and I think the ebay seller is hoping for that Jimmy Haslam type collector who could care less about cost. Since that is the national championship one it is going to be highly desirable. I see some of the coaches names but would look specifically for the big time players from that year. Tee Martin, Travis Henry, Peerless Price, Cedrick Wilson, etc. That would add value. You guys have some serious money up there in the tri-cities though so maybe some Eastman executive will shell out some serious change for it but it might be worth listing online too just to see what kind of offers you get.

Great ball man, as someone who used to buy and sell in the industry I'd guess $450-600 is a fair price for that ball. Unfortunately the '98 team didn't have some of the staying star power at the next level that really drives up the price. A team signed 97 ball that would have Peyton Manning on the ball would be worth at least a few hundred more then the actual title team.

I've sold some 2011 and other early bama team signed stuff and those can drive up to the $800-900 and beyond range just based on the star power on the ball. The most I ever saw was an early 2000s Miami ball, PSA certified, and Sean Taylor was among the signatures. I believe that went for $1400, for only about 12-15 hurricanes from one of their great early teams. A lot of great pros, and obviously the Sean Taylor factor. The Florida listing is for $800, I gaurentee you a serious buyer could get that ball for $600 or less.

I would guess however, an auction setting in Tennessee where this ball would have the most emotional value, where possibly some liquored up husbands are willing to be compete against eachother to show off in front of their wives / girl friends is the IDEAL setting to sell this ball, ha!

Good luck!

I do not have a note of authenticity. You are right though! I know some people from Eastman will be here. Good call!

I always find the collector items threads interesting. Maybe Dr. Loomis can chime in on what he would pay for it...

I don't know. I might go as high as $25 or so. It would be worth that to watch a gator fan I know lose his chit when I tossed it in a tree shredder.
To this day, I still refuse to ever purchase "gat*rade"
Powerade all day..........lost a tad of respect for Peyton as a sponsor of that crap.

Or wash it down with acetone then re-paint it orange in a how-to video.

Its a baden collectors signature football. It came out after the 98 season. Those are facsmile autographs. Basicall the players signed a football and baden copied over the signatures and sold them. Its still a cool piece though. I think you'll get some decent money. Its still a collectors item
