SIAP but did u guys hear about the picture circulating of the uf player ripping off the helmet of J James? That play he had to sit out was a foul on his replacement(kerbyson I think), and totally screwed up that drive.. Just another example of how dirty uf is.. If anybody has that pic, post it here.. Can't post it on my phone..

Hate the new rule. There ought to be a distinction between a helmet that just slips off and one that comes off due to an impact.

There has to be a better way to enforce player safety than to have this stupid rule.

well, they have to do something about it,the helmets shouldn't be coming off, this is better than nothing and the players should be making sure it is fitted properly

I mean I'd understand if the player didn't have both straps buttoned, but they do.. So I don't get it.. Punishing a kid like this makes no sense, and leaves the door open to scumbags like UT's Dline to take advantage of the rule.

This is going to become a much bigger problem. "Coincidentally" you're going to see tons of helmets of key players "popping" off. It's already happening. The NCAA will probably follow up this rule with a new penalty of unsportsmanlike conduct if the ref actually sees a player rip another players helmet off, which they probably never will.

It's not on the players.. U think they want them to come off? Of course they want it to fit properly..

How long before some team comes up with a Hans Device like they have in Nascar that prevents the helmet from coming off the player's head? I'm only half joking.

if you watch closely, 90% of the people that have helmets come off also have dreads. They are not getting the helmets fitted properly, and when someone grabs it, it comes off.

I dont know about the play you are talking about, it must have been a play that I missed. Sorry, not trying to avoid it, just dont remember seeing it.

(So, obviously I dont know if this is one of the 90% or the 10%)

Ok I hate Florida as much as the next vol fan but come on all these threads/comments about how much Florida cheats makes us look pathetic. Just stop it. We lost. I have seen, and so have you, plenty of incidents over the years where opposing teams could make the same claim about us. It is weak...

How about those jackasses buckle their helmets like they're supposed to?

I know that there is one of those rules that supposedly promotes player safety, but I can't see what the difference is between buckling your helmet in the huddle between plays or buckling it on the sideline during a play. Unless you've got a no-huddle team like Oregon or someone like that, the player has more than enough time to get his own helmet back on and buckled again.

I guess that there is a lot of difference in high school and college, but I played QB and CB in HS and we were not allowed to take our helmets off at any point during regulation, even on the sideline. The coach said it made us look ready to go all game long,(not winded). I never seen a helmet come off during play, but im sure there are some circumstances where it is more likely. It just seems odd that so many pop off as opposed to my personal experience. We also didn't have anyone with dreads. So I cant speak to that. Go Vols

And if a player actively pulls off another players helmet, he should have to sit out instead of the one who lost his helmet.

The reason for the penalty is that they are trying to force the players to get the helmets fitted properly.

If you saw the infamous Denard Robinson -v- Will Gholston "Head Twist" incident last year, the only reason the helmet was allowed to twist on denards head was because it was not fitted properly. It is a dreadlock/too much hair issue.

When the helmets are being fitted there are things the equipment guy, and coaches look for, but there are ways that the players can make them appear to fit correctly, even though they are not.

Its not safe, and I hope there is a big improvement soon.

I could get behind this rule a lot more if there was a way to guarantee that the helmet was fitted properly.

Certainly should be a 15 yard penalty

I actually like the new rule but there might need to be tweaks to it. Seriously, I don't think you guys know how many helmets were on the field after every play before they did this. Now you get probably 2-3 a game.

Now if another team is trying to take the helmet off of an opposing player to me it should be a 15 yard penalty and if the team has the ball and they did it during the play it should be loss of down.

Until 5 years ago you barely ever saw a helmet come off maybe every couple of games or something. Very seldom should a helmet come off.

The helmet rule is worthless. I've noticed more helmets coming off since the rule has been in place than before. Is this rule really keeping the players safe?

I think the difference is that you notice them now. It was happening before, as LSU-SIU point out, but we notice it more now because it is pointed out to us.

Making the player stop playing on the play his helmet comes off is one thing, but making them sit out a play is silly. The only guys loosing helmets are guys with long hair/dreads/etc.

Get a haircut during football season...

I'm going with what i've seen several announcers say on TV,that have played college and pro football for many years, they said there is no way for a properly fitted helmet to come off, that they never had it happen and the only reason they think it is happening is so players now can jerk the helmet off in a hurry

Does anyone have a copy of the pic of Ja'wuan getting his helmet knocked off? I have searched the net and can't find it.
