Helfrich off the board

Same BS with CBJ. Can't get his ego out of the way to hire a prolific OC/QB. I'm betting he goes in house and we continue to under develop players.

go on with yourself Butchie, Keep digging that hole to unemployment.

Yeah, that Debord fella was awful, just awful. And the really smart ones on this board knew it the first time his name came up.

He was NEVER on the board. Seriously some of you people are so damn gullible it's pathetic... Do you even think? Every rumor you believe, but hey Gruden will be here next year...

The good new for the Vols is Jones has an offensive system in place that doesn’t appear to need fixing or an overhaul.

Tennessee’s offense has been on an upswing since Jones’ took over a program that had won just two of its previous 16 SEC games entering into the 2013 season.

The Vols have averaged more points per game from one season to the next each of Jones’ four years at the helm.

The continuity of in-house hire might be too tempting for Jones to resist, particularly after Tennessee set single-season records for touchdowns and points scored this season despite a barrage of injuries that left only two offensive starters capable of starting every game.

I get the feeling that Scott has already been picked and the university is starting to spoon feed it in small bites. Swain jumped on board with it on the radio then Brice just endorsed him on Basilio.

Butch will be fired in 2018 if he hires Scott as OC and Mahoney stays. Mahoney is garbage and needs to go. We need an elite QB coach. Butch will either make it happen or dig his own grave. Just don't think year 5 is the time to give Scott the OC job.

Why are people freaking out about this?

There are plently of great offensive coaches out there these days. The Debord hire didn't turn out nearly as bad as most on here believed, especially being removed from the game for so long.

I'm not worried about this particular hire. DL and DB is a different discussion.

Well, this looks like the infamous "unnamed source" strikes again. Isn't this the same "Mike Griffith" who brought us the "Jonathan Kongo is not tuned in on the sidelines vs UK and he's obviously in the coaches doghouse" tweets? Absolute lies! Maybe it was another "journalist"?

Anyway, I have no idea if Helfrich is in play or not. But after years of watching for-profit media lay eggs, I'll need a little more security than "trust my good name on this".

or developing QBS.

Just more of Butch being Butch and more loses to USC Jr and Vandy on the way

If Scott is promoted to OC there would be still be an open spot that could be filled by a QB coach

No body good is gonna come coach at UT when Butch is a dead man walking and will most likely be fired after a poor showing next year and a new AD.

Butch has lost his cache or I should say he never had it but was good at lying.

To be honest, I'm somewhat relieved. Several pieces I've read make a point that Kelly was his Saban. Concern was that he was more Sunseri than a superstar OC.

As possible as I wanted to think this was....I've had my doubts due to the AD situation. I'm still dumbfounded that BJ is going to be allowed to hire/ negotiate staff without an AD in place. I guess it remains to be seen, since he hasn't hired anyone. I'm also dubious on who he can get in this situation. Not many coaches want to jump onto a situation not knowing who the AD is going to be....or with a coach entering a season reportedly with questions about his long term future.
